There are so many merchants out there - I was wondering what the most popular one's are.

Many sites use multiple options (e.g. PayPal + credit card).

The Costco/Nova is not an integrated ecommerce solution. I manually run the the credit cards on my machine after getting the orders from my website.

I use paypal on some sites, just due to ease of implementation. I checked out moneris a while ago and believe we use them for our non-online processing on my main site. (i.e. rather than taking online orders, customers call with their info. We then approve using an online system rather than a terminal. Fine for certain businesses, and we don't do face-to-face retail).

I was one of the first 1000 businesses to get approved to accept Visa online in Canada, way back in the 90's. It was a mess back then. And while the acceptance process has gotten a bit easier AFAIK the choices we've got in Canada are still far too limited, way too expensive, and not very business friendly. If anyone's got a good solution in Canada, I'm all ears .

Actually this is an interesting thread.

True a lot of things out there about PayPal, but for someone getting started with no guarantees on how much bussiness you'll get it's an easy starting option.

BTW if OP doesn't mind maybe people can post Payment Processors they use or know about, (except the ones already posted up there naturally), and maybe OP can keep an updated list at the top by editing the original thread.

i've worked with payapl, beanstream and authorize.net.. imo, authorize.net is the easiest payment gateway to work with.

What about the viaKLIX gateway mentioned at http://www.novainfo.com/costco/pos-t...s-software.asp ? There's a list of compatible carts at https://www2.viaklix.com/admin/suppo.../cart_list.asp and viaklix.com has a Developer's Guide that can help you integrate it into your website if you're using a different cart.

I've read that you can alternatively use authorize.net as a gateway for that also...

Thanks! Haven't figured out a way of changing the poll. Should have made multiple payment methods an option as well - sorry all.

FYI - A buddy of mine has just joined a Canadian merchant provider service but he recommended that I stick with PayPal until the volumes got up.

you guys are getting rip off by paypal's high rate.
i'm with payment tech.
thought IVR, 1.75%
thought web 2%
i didn't pay any setup fee, but i do have to pay 25 bux monthly for the terminal.

I had Payment tech before with about the same rate as yours, but I ended up canceling it because it would be easier to have online reporting and transaction history at the end of the year for reconcilation instead of relying on the receipt printer from the terminal and the monthly statement which does not list the credit card number for each transaction.
