Default How long does it take to open an efund account?

I need to rant.

I'm trying to open a TD efund account. I downloaded the forms and sent it in with all the requested info 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting for TD to open the account. Couldn't get a status from anybody when I called, they say I have to inquire by email as that's part of deal with efunds:

lower costs = no humans

I'm definitely not impressed with TD so far. I going to take my business to BMO if they can't get the account open by the end of this week.

You can phone them. They use a weird system, where you initiate the phone call online, enter in your phone number, and then your phone will ring. It will connect you with their customer service dept.

Once I mailed back the forms, it only took 3 business days to setup the account.

I tossed 1K each into the TD Canada Index and the TD International Index funds to start. Not a whole of choices in the e series, but you can get pretty well diversified with 3-4 funds.

It took nearly 6 weeks from my original phone call. Some of the delay belongs to me, however if this 'method' is to help those on the move (which I was and not in town to respond to 'real' mail) it will frustrate. Now that it's up and running, I'm very satisfied with the whole operation.

Efunds are great, after you have it set up and are online. It is easy, also you have access to all the TD funds as well as TDW if you want. A rational plan would be 25% Bond fund, 25% Canadian index, 25% S/P 500 and 25% International index e, do not choose the RRSP version which is a clone fund. Charges are higher. Canada only accounts for 3% of the world equity market, so you should diversify. Buying the US now while it is on sale versus the Canadian dollar means more when the Can. dollar starts it's decline in a few years.
