Hello, I have a wireless router in my home, but it's on a different floor then where I keep my 360. I know I can buy the 360 adapter and get online, but it's $129, can I buy other network adapters? will others be compatible with the 360? please shoot me some brands, models! thanks

Not true due to compatibility and drivers.

If you have a laptop. use it as a "bridge".
The laptop will serve via the Internet Connection Sharing. Works great for me since I have my laptop on anyways when I'm gaming (Gamefaqs FTW).

Personally I have my PC in the same room so I dragged about 40 feet of Ethernet cable to my 360.
From what I've read though, the cheapest way to do it is to get a Linksys WRT54GL (or an old WRT54G) router and flash the firmware so you can use it as a bridge. Last time I googled and there were several tutorials online on how to do this. These routers always go on sale at Staples etc so as long as you can find the right ones, you should be able to do it. USB adapters will not work - my Microsoft USB adapter (for Windows) doesn't work in my 360. Other than the official one, I haven't heard of another one that will work. Any Wireless BRIDGE *will* work. However, these are usually almost as expensive as the 360 Wireless adapter itself. I asked before and several computer stores in my area were willing to do a special order (~$90) for a D-link Wireless Gaming Adapter, which is a special wireless bridge they make. The model I asked for isn't made anymore, but the DWL-G820 is. http://www.dlink.com/products/?pid=333 |
