Default House Efficiency Inspection

Hey,
I think my house has a leak somewhere and cold air is getting in, I cannot seem to find where. Also I would like to have my house inpected for wheather proofing.

Does anyone know who does these types of inspection and can you please recommend me some? also approx how much will it cost?

Thanks

Go rent an infrared camera and film your house from the outside. You'll see where you lose the heat.

(don't know where you can rent one, but that's how pros do it)

I found a few sites for rentals:
Ottawa - http://www.spectrum-instruments.com/rentals/
Burlington - http://www.infraredcamerarentals.com...as/cameras.asp
Stoney Creek - http://www.infraredsales.com/rental_info.htm
Montreal - http://www.primoinc.com/Rentals.htm?CD=140&ID=1625

But it may be cheaper just to get a pro to do it, like the guy at http://www.boldstarinfrared.com/house.html

Even cheaper and more thorough (but probably without infrared) would be an EnerGuide evaluation. http://www.amerispec.ca/english/energuide/index.html says:
"The energy evaluation or building plan evaluation is valued at $350, but
with support from the Federal Government, we are able to offer the service
for less. We bill you $150-200.00 (more for larger homes, or homes located
a great distance from our office) and the government reimburses us for the
balance."

I'm tempted to go the infrared way even on my new house that I'm having built, just to be sure that the builder has done things properly.

WOW, thx Rehan for the links, you really did some research.

i am thinking of going with the EnerGuide.
the infrared one looks like it needs to be done by a professional.

In AB, Energuide costs $150 and then when it done after your improvements are made, the net difference in efficiency is what you are eligible for in a grant.

We pretty much had it nailed as to what needed to be done in our reno, but it was nice to get our ideas confirmed.

I've had the energy audit done on two of my homes and can't recommend it enough to anyone who owns a home, new or old. In both cases, I got back more in rebates than I paid for the audit and the improvements (mostly just caulking and weathersrtipping).
