Thumbs up HOT: $599.99 @ Dell.ca: Canon Rebel XS w/18-55mm IS Lens & USM Telephoto Zoom Lens

Click: Product Link on Dell.ca
Expires: December 16, 2009 (48 hour sale)

I believe this is a warm (and perhaps hot) deal on this DSLR and lenses. Priced separately on Amazon.com gives a total price of US$639.77 + shipping/duty/import fees/etc. + taxes.

More details on Amazon.com:

Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black) by Canon: $479.89

Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras by Canon: $159.88

Post Last year's deals

Just for comparison, here's what I got last year:

This past Boxing Day @ FS: Canon XS with 18-55mm IS lens, bag, extra battery, AND battery grip for $499. The battery grip is currently $206.99 at FS, and an extra battery is $79.99...so I essentially got the camera, lens, and bag for about $213. That was one of my scores from my first ever BD adventure.

Also, in July last year, Best Buy randomly had a deal of the Canon XSi (which had just come out) with the 18-55mm IS and 55-250mm IS lenses for $874.99. I figured it was a mistake (it was going for about that price without the 55-250 lens), so I printed it immediately and had FS PM it. I had to wait about a month for them to get the 55-250 lens in, but it was well worth it. Again, I haven't seen a deal like that since on the XSi.

BTW, the XTi, XS, and XSi are amazing cameras. The fancy new T1i has 1080p video, so if you can spare a few bucks, it's probably worth it. Also, pay the $120 for the 50mm f1.8 lens - I get my money's worth out of that little thing pretty much every concert I go to.

hot price on the 75-300 through amazon, I think. ~$180 shipped to me, when it costs about $250+taxes here.

Default And...

Oh, and as much as that's a great deal on the 75-300 lens, note that it is NOT image stabilized. If anyone's thinking of getting a cheap/value zoomer, I'd say to grab a used 55-250IS (or save for a bit longer to get a brand new one). The IS gets kind of important the more you zoom.

...especially if you're like me and don't have a steady hand. Stupid coffee.

FYI, Dell had this combo (except the 75-300 wasn't USM, and the 18-55 wasn't IS) last year on the DDotD for $400, The XS was silver, but for $400 it couldn't be beat. I sold mine off after using it for half a year for $550 =)

You must be damn close to the stage to be using the 50mm f1.8 at concerts lol. With the 1.6 crop on the XS thats only a 80mm short telephoto prime.

Wow, that's an amazing deal!

FS was selling the just the camera (Canon XS with 18-55mm IS) for $499 this weekend in their "After Hours Sale". It's back up to $549.99, but still, supposedly, a sale price.

I can't imagine that FS would offer such a package this Boxing Day. Or could they? How could they justify it with their "Guaranteed lowest price until Jan 3" claim...?

Located in GTA Got T1i with 18-55 IS + 55-250 IS for $999.99!

I have been planning to get this package for a long time. Watched Aden,Vistek,Visions, FS, BB etc stores and jumped on the 1099.99 deal at BB last week. Used the $100 online coupon to get it for 999.99! I think this is the lowest the combo has ever been. If it gets lower on BD then I will return this. Anybody think the combo will go for lower?

For camera you can only return in 14days, in 26 and 27 most stores do not accept return. So basically you have no chance to return it.

Thanks Jon Lai for pointing that out. I had taken that into consideration before going for the deal.

Can you provide a link, does it only for dell, or future shop and best buy also have the same policy?
Thanks in advance!
