This weekend only, Home Depot has the Chamberlain PowerDrive 1/2 HP garage door opener on sale for $125 (reg. $189). Model #182638D. This seems to be in-store only as the one on the website is a different model # and price.
8 left at the Ellesmere/Warden location. |

Yes. I noticed. Luckily I don't need one as there's a door into my garage. You can always buy a keypad for $45 or even a keychain remote.

This is kind of OT. I just bought the $350 belt drive opener w/o the backup battery (http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/s...=P_PartNumber).
I got it mainly for the lifetime in-home warranty. Do you guys think it was worth it? Or should I go for this cheaper one with 6 year motor warranty. My old one died on me after the warranty period. |

It turns out that all of the HDs local to me were cleared out of this early on Saturday. The gentleman at their desk described a huge stack of them disappearing in a matter of a couple of hours. So, no new opener for me. My old one is working okay at the moment, but it is a bit cranky sometimes... I think it's around 30 years old, so I guess I should be happy that it works at all. I *did* however pick up the cordless hammer drill from the same flyer. It was marked as $39.00 on the price tag, but scanned as $39.99, so I was able to use their scanned prices policy and get it for $29.00. First time I've ever had the opportunity to take anyone up on an incorrect price scan. |

DIY is pretty easy but a word of caution!
The chamberline manuals neglect to mention that its a good idea to lower the downforce on the motor when testing the reverse safety mechanism. The test requires putting an object under the site of the lasers so that they dont pick it up and have the garage door hit the object and reverse back. When I put the object under the door, not knowing the downforce power was halfway, it hit the object and continued to crush down on it until the entire arm ripped off the garage door. Luckily there was no damage but there very well could have been. |
