Default HELP: Partition Magic 8 Merging Error

i got a new HD and made it specifically for my OS and programs.. so far so good... using Partition Magic 8 worked fine..

then i wanted to merge my old "C" drive with my old "D" drive... same drive mind you just partition.... so when i used the merge option in Parition Magic 8 to merge both "C" and "D" during the process of it Partition Magic gave me an "Error 1520"!? so the whole merging process was cancelled...

OK..

then suddenly my windows detects my "D" drive as unallocated.. >___< ... is there any way I can recover the data on this drive or is all lost and needs to be FDisked?

i tried using the undelete feature in Partition Magic 8 but its saying that there was no partition on "D" drive...

any help woul dbe greatly appreciated... thanks

Well ... I can help you for your future attempt - never EVER use PM again. Many people get burned when splitting/merging partitions and lose all their stuff (including myself). It's a very risky operation.
In any case, try making the unallocated drive FAT32/NTFS again, and use GetDataBack, or whatever software for recovery.

Make/create/delete is fine. Just don't merge unless you have an image of the drives first.

I don't know if there is any way of recovering the data, however Partition Magic is a great program with one exception - never use the merge function. If you need to join two partitions move all data off the second partition, delete that partition to create free space and then extend the first partition to take over the free space. Oh yeah, always have data backed up somewhere else when doing anything like this. Or better still always have your data backed up period.

PM Merge owned my data once too.. It hung halfway through.. First and last time using it.

Anyway if it didn't actually begin the merging process and just removed the partition marker, you maybe able to recover the files with r-studio or a similar program.

I've had PM spit errors at me to from time to time, but it never feasted on it.

Doing a deep scan disk always solved my PM problems.
I guess the lesson I learned from my past experiences with PM, is that you should always do a thorough scan disk on the drive in question before doing any split/join/move operations.

I never had a single problem with PM so far, but i have been carefull enough to backup my stuff on another HDD.

I use File Scavenger for data recovery, even if there is no partition, it can get the data from the HDD, the process takes time but its mostly time succesfull.

good luck,
