Default HELP! ! ! CPU overheating
I just upgraded my system with a core 2, 2.13 chip and Asus P5b mobo. Even though the CPU fan is on properly and spinning at an average of 1750RPM the chip is overheating. With low processing it's around 75 degrees but when the CPU goes to about 50% processing the temp jumped up to 105 degrees causing the system to shutdown. Have anyone experienced this? What are my options? Any help would be appreciated.

- did you clean the cpu core properly before you installed it ??

- did you use a thermal compound ??

- make sure the HeatSink fan is sitting flush with the cpu ...

Yes the cpu was clean

No I just put the intel fan over cup from box

stupid question but did you remove the piece covering the bottom of the heatsink before installing?

Reinstall the heatsink, make sure that all the pins are pushed through completely. It's a bugger to install those sometimes.

Have you tried to touch the heatsink ? 70C+ should be burning hot ....

That's the thing, it's not physically hot. . .i'm not sure if it's an application error. as soon it jumps over 105 degrees system shuts down

If it's not hot, you either have a bad mount or a faulty sensor.

Get some AS5 and put it on that bad boy.

It should be around 30-35 for idle at stock voltages with stock HSF.

When the CPU shuts down, immediately put our hand near the heatsink and quickly touch the heatsink itself to see if its hot(caution: consider the heatsink HOT). If not, then maybe you have a fault sensor as someone said. Or bios is messes up, try flashing the bios then or exchange the mobo (if new).

Thanx Guys, This part of the problem is solved.

I removed the fan and rotated it and temp dropped to about 40 degrees.

SECOND PROBLEM

Another problem started as soon as that was fixed. I'm trying to install Need for Speed 2 and when it's just about to complete, the system shuts down just like it was doing when the Temp we up. Only this time the CPU is at 40 as mentioned before. What could be the problem?

correct me if i'm wrong, but if it's the memory thats bad wouldn't that just crash the PC and not just turn it Off.
