Has anyone had a mole removal?

A friend of mine is having a mole removal from her face. Has anyone had one done before? Was it painful? Did you have a bandage on after? Stitches?
She said theres 2 ways. 1) Excise it (will leave scar, how bad, don't know) 2) Shave it (will leave white mark??)

Just wondering what peoples experiences are. Happy? Painful? Ackward if you walk in public?

Mine were small spots so I was able to use a laser. It basically burnt the skin and made a scar that falls off including the mole but mine just came back and it cost $214/time and I had to do it 4 times. After the precedure the spot feels like there is a cut with alcohol applied, it stings but not very painful. It leaves a reddish mark for the first 2 days and then a scar appears. Depending how big it is and where it is the prodecures and cost will be different. I had a little bleeding like you would have from popping a pimple, no stitches.

what the hellll? it cost you $214 each time????????? When I did mine, it was $10 each time and since mine was really deep, i had to do it several times. after the 5th time, the lady told me she would just give me the rest for free....
i wonder why yours cost so much. do you mind me asking where u did yours and what size was your mole?

I did mine at a specialist and I guess that how much they charge even though when I went the first time I thought it was a little over the top . Mine weren't those major ones, it was the flat ones that are just like a felt marker and that's it.

neways i've seen it done from being a co-op student at surgical procedure unit

the surgeon basically injects anesthesia near the mole, he'll say you would feel some pressure

everyone was ok with the needle, didnt hurt much or anything, then he uses a small knife to cut the mole off, it'll start to bleed, and he'll apply pressure on it with those white clothes

and then he just stitches it up

very very simple and short procedure

the scar really depends on whether the surgeon did a good job or not and how the stitching was done

just my 2cents from observation

ic.. i did mine at a beauty salon.... i guess that explains the price difference. mine wwere the small ones too.

OOOhhhh. Hers is gonna cost $200 approx. This is done by a plastic surgeon.

I did laser as well and paid $250. All I know is, I could not walk around in public for two days. It looked like I was bleeding under the skin, like dark red splotches. Then my skin looked really good, now a year later and my moles are back. They are flat as well. the laser felt like a rubber band being snapped on my face.

i did it both at a beauty salon and a skin specialist. The one at beauty salon charged me $10 and the specialist charged me $200. The results were about the same. If I have to do it again, I go to the beauty salon.

The procedure is pretty easy, takes 5 to 15 minutes. Mine are really minor spots and just sting a bit. I am glad i did it. The skin looks much nicer after the mole is burned off. I did one 4 years ago and one last year, the moles have not come back yet.

Might as well go with the ghetto style of using a needle . It actually works pretty good as long as you just take the thinnish top layer of skin off to not cause any bleeding and a scar won't appear.

I had 5 quite large moles removed from my body, so scar size wasn't an issue as it wasn't on my face. 3 from my back, 1 from my chest and 1 from my arm. The one on my arm is about the size of a dime, the others are about the size of a nickel so quite large.

I had a well known plastic surgeon do it, but he did it quickly and I don't think he did a very good job. Usually there is only a little scar that would look like : | : on the skin. Well all of mine opened up after a few days so I had little holes and by that time it was too late to have them re-stitched. So now my scars look like this : 0 : (imagine a hole dime/nickel sized).

I think I was in a different boat than you were as they removed mine as they could have been cancerous. Thank God they weren't though.

Oh, and it didn't cost me a thing Good ole Canadian healthcare!

I had 3 quite big moles removed.
They gave me a little needle to freeze the area, and then the doc burned it off. No scars at all. And I didn't have to go back. AND, I didn't pay a thing for it. My doc did it as a day surgery, even though it only took about 30 mins for all three!!

What was your surgeon called? I'm guessing since it wasn't on the face he didn't really take him to do it "cosmetically" ?

I had a mole (actually a basal cell carcinoma) removed from my face years ago. The surgeon made sure the incision followed a laugh line. Had 3 external stitches. Have a small scar that is not noticeable unless I point it out, but then again my skin heals very nicely. A lot depends on the site of the mole, the size of the mole, your skin, and the surgeon's skills.
