Hard drive deal?

Anyone find some good PC hard drive deals? I would need a couple more for my servers.

If you ask me, the 250 GB WD drives at BB and FS are a really good deal.

Others say they aren't impressed, but that's just because they have been so spoiled from price errors that they have forgotten what a good deal looks like.

You won't find one cheaper anywhere else.

its pretty close in price due to paying the MIR tax, but you're right it's cheaper

problem though. aren't OEM HD's carrying a longer warranty on them than retail?

staples has a 100GB MAxtor SATA for $69 (instant rebate from 130). That is a bit less than the O.E.M. price. I think you can get 250GB SATA @ FactoryDirect for $120

Yeah you guys are right. I found 250 GB WD and Maxtor HDD's for the same price without the rebate, and they aren't OEM, so they come with a 3 year warranty, not a 1 year warranty.

Also, there's $150 worth of rebates, so the tax you get charged will be much higher than you would think.

I guess I should have shopped around before deciding it was a good deal. I'll definitely pass on the HD from FS.

just wait till boxing day when the computer stores have their sales. Im looking to get am OEM 250GB for about 100-120 plus taxes (either seagate or WD)

Forget boxing day, many computer stores have those prices now.
Canada Computers has both Maxtor and WD 250 GB drives for $120. Seagate is about an extra $10, if that.

Those are retail too, not that OEM-no warranty crap.
No MIR's either.

I also thought that OEM drives had the longer warranty than retail boxed drives...

OEM = 1 year
Retail = 3 or 5 year (3 for Maxtor & WD, 5 for Seagate)

Well I'll be damned. lol

That's weird, because I called up Canada Computers and asked them how long the warranty was on their Maxtor 250 GB hard drive. They said "1 year." Now, according to the person on the phone and their webpage, that hard drive is OEM.
Now, another computer store in my town has the same drive, but it's retail and it comes with a 3 year warranty.

But it seems to be the other way around with FS.

Anyone else have an explanation?

I thing they all go by Date of Manufacture, not purchase.

It would be hard to fight FS on the wrong warranty information as most times the information on the site is wrong.

They go by date of purchase if you have a receipt. I know from experience... I think they use the date of manufacture plus an allowance time if you don't have proof of purchase date.
