I've been eyeing this set all year. Last night I got a flyer showing the set selling for $598 (it has been that price before), but now you get a $100 discount to put towards any Callaway bag. As I was looking for a new bag too, this clinched the deal for me. The 8 piece combo set has the 3 and 4 hybrids, and 5 to PW. I think the hybrids alone sell for around $100 each separately.
![]() Link (although the website doesn't show the $100 promo) Edit: They have just updated the website with the new flyer showing the bag deal. It is on page 5, lower right corner. Flyer Last edited by Riddick; Sep 17th, 2009 at 01:58 PM.. |

Those are nice clubs though - and the game is A LOT easier with nice clubs. Still you could get nice clubs for a couple hundred less - the Callaway Warbirds are under $400 and good. Or check out Rockbottom.
If you're going to play and have enough experience to know you'll enjoy it and stick with it, then those clubs are a good deal. greefieldgolf also has an end of year sale going on with Ping G10 steel irons for $550 - thats a GREAT set. they have a website. |

remember you'll need some woods (I personally just used a 3 wood the first couple of years it was much easier to hit than a driver), putter and bag if you don't have those either. |

Since this deal comes with a bag and the Warbirds don't, it is basically $100 difference between the Warbird and the X-20 which is well worth it. Last edited by Riddick; Sep 17th, 2009 at 11:10 AM.. |

one other thing to consider is the hybids ... either your love them or you don't .... at least from what I heard
If you know how to hit ... just go give them a few swings at golftown. I think Sportschek had beginner sets for 150 on clearence, it has everything to get your started. A great way to start and see if you really enjoy the game. |

For those clubs, I would say this is a great deal. I've just been through this whole process with my gf about getting her a set of clubs (she just started playing on real courses). I would say that as a beginner, you won't really notice the difference between a beginner set of clubs (eg. the full sets with irons, woods, putter, wedge and bag), and you can get beginner sets at end of season sales for under $400 all in for something that won't breat in 2 uses. This is probably your best option if you're unsure whether or not you want to take up the game of golf seriously since if you decide that you don't like it after all, you haven't spend $700-$1000 on a set of clubs you're not going to use anymore.
That being said, if you know you want to stay with the game, and you can afford these, this is a great deal. You won't feel the need to go out and upgrade your clubs in a year or two, which you might want to if you get a beginner set of clubs, because when you do get better, you do notice the difference of quality clubs. As for hybrids, like previously stated, it is personal preference. I shoot in the low 80's and love the hybrid I got to replace my 3 iron (which I couldn't hit consistently to save my life). Best thing to do is to go to golf town and try out the clubs and get what feels best to you. |

if you are a beginner. Spend your money on lesson first, and get a beginner set. b/c you still need to get a putter at least (if not driver), so will end up costing you at least 700 + tax.

I got these clubs earlier in the year when they were on for 600. It was between these and the Taylor Made R7 irons and I found that these had a little bit more weight to them which I liked in my downswing.
I personally like the hybrids and had replaced my 3 and 4 irons in my previous set with Ben Hogan hybrids. The BH hybrids are a little more forgiving then these and a little heavier but I easily found my swing with the Callaways. I picked up the Callaway carry bag for $100 at Costco a few weeks later but $100 off a bag with this deal is pretty good. |

I have the 5w of the 2008 model. solid club.
Callaway's clubs are good. The deal is a good one. If you can wait for late oct or november for GT's clearance sale. You maybe able to get a better set of irons for that price without the 3-4hybrid and bag though. If its quality you're after. |
