I had the previous generation Fridgidaire from Costco. The accesories were garbage. I returned it right away. I bought the Nutone from Home Depot and have been very happy. The Hoover from Costco is also a good buy when it goes on sale.

I find that the Nutone does not always pick up the threads? Do you have that problem?

Don't know about the Frigidaire, but the Hoover goes on sale about once a year for $200 off. We bought ours in the fall and works great.

I received and installed this vacuum yesterday, and vacuumed the house this morning with it.

I could tell no difference in cleanliness between it and the Beam we just replaced it with (it picked up everything, had powerful suction, wasn't too loud). The power-head is a bit lighter than our previous (not necessarily a bad thing), and worked well as well.

The hose, handle, and attachments are good quality, although I haven't used them extensively (obviously).

My two cents after one vacuuming :P

Cheers.

ps. UPS "delivered" it and just left it on my front veranda all day...I avoid them like the plague if I have a choice.

I installed mine about 2.5 years ago and really like it. It is powerful and accessories quality is fine. For this price you can't go wrong. I also like that it has bags - makes it easier to clean.

This might go without saying, but I didn't know when we bought our first central vac and bought a bunch of bags when i didn't need to...

That is, the bags are optional in that they basically just act as a garbage bag you replace every few months. I don't use them on mine and just empty the bucket (sans bag) instead.

Does anyone know if central vacs are eligible for the home renovation tax credit? I know appliances aren't but this is an installed fixture.

You may also want to compare it with Canavac's sales at Vacmaster.

http://www.the-vacmaster.ca/index.html

They have the Model 250LS for $399 with hose and brush head, etc...

Similar Air Watts ~580.
