Reposted and updated here

Gonna make this my ongoing food thread! reposted from the off topic forum. Feel free to add your comments and thoughts.

Salad King (Thai)
335 Yonge Toronto (416) 971-7041 map
Tasty and cheap. With a heat scale of 1-20 now. I top out around 5/6 Reccommended is the Thai Basil Chicken. I like the Pud Thai too. Funny thing about this address that I just noticed - the entrance to the place is on Gould st!!

Chiado's (Portugese)
864 College Toronto (416) 538-1910 map
Seafood and some authentic portugese cookin' Excellent service, high/moderate pricing.

Susur's (Asian/Contemporary)
601 King W Toronto (416) 603-2205 map
Damn expensive, but way impressive. Eat here if you want to get a taste of super food from a world renknowned chef. decor is very white/white with splashes of colour.

Auberge du Pommier (Contemporary-ish)
4150 Yonge North York (416) 222-2220 map
Best Creme Brulee in the city that I've had. good food, really nice and intimate dining room. It's like you're in the South of France, but the 401 is only 2 minutes north. Again, expensive, but nice for a date you want to impress.

The Roastery (Middle Eastern)
somewhere on Dundas, 1 block west of Church map
cheap! and the best eggplant sandwich eva! It's a coffee house, but their sandwiches are filling, tasty, and really are well priced. Also try the Flafel sandwich. Ask for extra hot sauce!

Ichi Rikki (Japanese)
120 Bloor E Toronto (416) 923-2997 map
Great sushi and not so bad prices. Rikki-san is super nice and apparently, this is where off-duty chefs come to eat sushi! My favorite Sushi place.

Lei Wah Heen (Chinese)
108 Chestnut Toronto (416) 977-9899 map
Hidden up on the second floor of the metropolitan hotel, (there's no sign), this is the best contemporary chinese food, even for dim sum. They have this one dish with mushrooms and pea shoots that just can't be beat. Very tasty. Pricey though.

added April 17, 2003...

Eigensinn Farm (Contemporary)
Eigensinn Farm, RR#2 Singhampton Ontario (519) 922-3128
GREAT food, VERY expensive, but a big treat to go. Reservations required. Went last year, decided to include it as it deserves mention, even if it's no where near Toronto. ;) Asian influences in the food. almost fusion, but not quite. it's actually a farm.

Tournayre Patisserie (French)
1856 Queen Street East (416) 693-7997 map
Had lunch there last week. Nice sandwiches and by far, the best croissants IMO. Very tasty mango danish too. Crowded when I went, limited seating. Best for breakfast/brunch.

Planet Crystal Sports Bar & Restaurant (Carribean)
225 Church Street (416) 601-9666 map
Excellent Jerk Chicken. Around $9 for the large chicken plate, rice and peas, and coleslaw. I haven't eaten much else here, but I go at least once a month or so. Gingerbeer is available and comes with glasses from the freezer. I like the Pinapple drink. Atmosphere is okay, very casual. Can get pretty busy.

Terroni Restaurant (Italian)
106 Victoria Street (416) 955-0258 map
720 Queen Street West (416) 504-0320 map
1 Balmoral Avenue (416) 925-4020
map
I'm quite aghast that I didn't mention this one before. I love this place. Nothing like the sandwiches here - procuitto, roasted red, eggplant, and some Havarti on Foccacia. SO GOOD. Also super tasty is their pastas. I crave their pastas. Add in a nice can of Limonata and mmm... nice on summer days. There are three locations, the one on Victoria is the one I go to lots, and serves many pastas. Best for summer and feel is the one on Queen. Patio is in the back. Never been to the Balmoral location. decent prices, but it can add up when you get appetizer and dessert and coffee!!! note: pizza's are very good here too, but I still love the pasta.. mmm.. fresh pasta...

Spring Rolls By St Lawrence Market
85 Front Street East (416)365-7655 map
Been here a couple times now. Decor is modern and clean. Service isn't the speediest, but friendly. If they really mess up your order like they did for me the first time, they'll give you some spring rolls or something. Food is generally good and it's nice to see Pho and Bun available at this end of the city. Really enjoyed the dishes, (I had Curry Pad Thai- YUM), the spring rolls were okay, but nothing great and I wouldn't order them again. Overall a good place to go, cheap to moderate prices. Very comprable to chinatown prices, pehaps a buck or two more.

You haven't tried their pizza? That's the main reason I keep going there.

Hehhe.. I have had their pizza, but it's their sandwiches and pasta that keeps me coming back. I will, however, add that in. :) The pasta is the first thing I think of.

adding in maps now, idea stolen from PGT...

Jen, where do you get the cash to eat at Susur's and Eigensinn Farm? It must all the dough that you're saving from Red Flag's.

I don't go out to eat often or watch many full price movies. *g* I save the money from there to eat REALLY well.

Nice collection. I see you've got two of the big players up there, but no Canoe? Definetly worth checking out. Same owner as Auberge, but you get the great view from the 54th floor at the TD tower. Oh yea, and the food ain't bad either . Great food!

I've actually been to canoe a couple times already, but it's been a while, so I didn't think it fair to try to dredge up an outdated review. *g*

I really should update that list.

I've been to canoe a couple of times and it was nice. good service. however, this was a few years ago, so I don't really remember the food. good overall impression though.
