Default Do you have to report tickets to your insurance co?

I was convicted a few months back for a speeding ticket. Do you have to report all convictions to your insurance company? I've gotten mixed opinions on this.

You do when you apply for new insurnce or if asked , on renewal they run a check and they will get details of your ticket from the ministry.

Thanks to modern technology like computers, the insurance company can see your past convictions as well as claims record in seconds. You don't have to tell them. They already know.

I'll assume you are in Ontario. If you have some time on your hands the HTA is a free read here.

If you stay with the insurance company you are currently with, it is up to that insurance company to find out for themselves. However, if you apply for insurance with a new company, the application clearly asks if you have had any convictions and you must disclose the ticket or you run the risk of having your insurance cancelled for non-disclosure, which looks worse on your record then any ticket you could get.
