Default Director Peter Jackson's next project - remake KING KONG 1933 [MERGED]

should be interesting to see what Jackson does with Kong, but he is staying true to the 1930s story.

I only wish the 1933 DVD version was available NTSC - you can only get it in europe/asia/ebay. best film ever. anybody got a copy??

I pretty sure its filming right now down under in Australia. Its stars Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody and Jack Black(awful choice for leading male). Andy Serkis aka Gollum will be the guy who will be motion captured to play the CGI King Kong.

yeah I thought the news was around but checked RFD search and no threads on it - still wanted to also ask if anyone has seen the recent non-NTSC dvd of the 1933 version.

They remake them because they're a sure thing to make huge amounts of money.

Same reason why they keep making sequels to Jurrasic Park.

Summary according to IMDB:
Set in the 1930s, this is the story of a group of explorers and documentary filmmakers who travel to the mysterious Skull Island (near Sumatra) to investigate legends of a giant gorilla named Kong. Once there, they discover that King Kong is a real creature, living in a massive jungle where creatures from prehistoric times have been protected and hidden for millions of years. As the explorers search for the great ape, their quest puts them up against both Kong and his dinosaur enemies. Ultimately, it is the attention of a beautiful human woman that soothes Kong long enough for him to be subdued by the explorers and shipped back to New York, where his bleak future involves being put on display in front of humans... but how long can even the mightiest shackles of man hold back an ape 25 feet tall?

Starring: Naomi Watts, Jack Black, Adrien Brody, Andy Serkis, Thomas Kretschmann, Colin Hanks, Kyle Chandler, Evan Parke, Lobo Chan, Jamie Bell, John Sumner, Craig Hall, Geraldine Brophy, Will Wallace, Joe Folau, Ray Woolf, John Clarke, Joe Folau, Will Wallace, Pip Mushin, Jed Brophy, Jason Whyte

Release Date: December 14th, 2005

Mmm, Naomi Watts...actually, can we throw out every frame without her in it? Just smash the remaining footage together!

Feh. I'll watch it, but what are they really going to do to make this one any different from the 1930s classic with Fay Wray, or the 1970s version with Jessica Lange? For me, the only question is which building is Kong going to climb?
