UPDATE Got the unti today. it is NOT the same crappy model as shown. It is actually MN2707 with build in antenna, and it *DOES* automatic re-calculate route if you drive off course. To those lazy one don't want to read all the postings, the OS on this one is Linux based. and it comes w/ 40GB HD (not 30GB) ========= Review - here ========= Photos - http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...0&postcount=45 ========= MacVision Auto GPS Navigation System Product# 35-2555-6 View larger image Reg. $499.99 Sale $399.99 Large 7" touch sensitive colour screen (800x480 pixel resolution) Detailed street level Canadian mapping & major US highways (expandable to include detailed US mapping) USB 2.0 and USB host ports Turn-by-turn voice prompting Two million pre-loaded points of interest Automatic routing to your destination Easy-to-use suction cup mount 30 GB internal hard drive Navteq mapping Hard drive allows for MP3 playback (with built-in speakers) and jpeg viewing Part# MN2607 ==== I wonder if this one is any good.. and is this the 'improved' version from last time which was recall after a week or so... It seems more attractive than FS Garmin StreetPilot i3 Navigation System - Web Only $319 w/ small screen, But then it is from Garmin, atleast supports sounds better... Hummm... ====== Added: guess what I found: Review from RFDer. That's for the orig model. I hope this is a new & improved version... ====== Added: there *is* a firmware upgrade available

Yes it costs extra for U.s. maps, but they STILL HAVE NOT released it since last Christmas, I doubt they ever will. Q. I was told it came with major US city maps too, is it true? A. It comes preloaded with Canadian maps only. The us maps will be available late 2005 when the US model is released. For now, US Long Haul is available only. US long haul will be able to view when you scale to 10 KM. There are maps for the U.S. only major highways built in, the unit is also of cheap quality, many RFD users in the old thread (don't bump it up please) had GPS problems, booting problems, overheating problems. You get what you pay for with "no name", avoid this and get a Garmin or other branded GPS. Last edited by yuprules; May 19th, 2006 at 10:30 AM.. |

You can find which CD's work with this unit on the RIGHT side of this page: http://www.garmin.com/products/spi3/ This unit already has street level detail, there is no need to buy another one. Most units are loaded by a USB to serial adapter that goes into the GPS unit. newer ones are USB. Last edited by yuprules; May 19th, 2006 at 11:23 AM.. |

Also there seems to be a firmware update on their web (v1.1) maybe that fixes pile of problems? (wishful thinking)

I use TomTom on my palm T3 with a bluetooth GPS in the trunk and its an absolute dream. If I was going to buy a standalone unit it would be TomTom hands down, I've tried about a dozen other applications for PDA and PC and none compare.

P7 - Preload with US & Canada Map vs. MN2707 (not MN2607 CT is selling) - Preload with Canada & US Long haul only And both unit looks almost the same (even the HW specs)
