Default Course Selection: TUT b4 or after LEC?

1st yr question:

Should I take the TUT before or after the LEC?

Advantages / Disadvantages?

I would say after just in case u have any questions after the lecture. But i just usually fit it in where i have room and can go home earlier.

doesn't matter, you'll probably end up skipping half of it anyway.. Unless its one of those tutorials with quizzes...

most of the TUTs are just throwing the answers to the assigned quesitons(and most TAs just copy all the texts from the answer books). But who will do those till the exams.

One funny thing i remember is: For a course, we had print quota for the assignments. And when the term was almost done, i asked one of my m8, how many did you left. She said, i never did them, i copied them all.

One thing you need to konw b4 the class is to find a cheap copy store. You will never quit copying in your school years.

Definitely BEFORE lecture. It allows you to be on time for class and if the prof ends early, then you can go home early. I guess you can see this in the other direction too, it depends which one (tut or lec) ends early more often.

Are you talking about selecting the TUT on ROSI before LEC? Or are you talking about timetabling it before or after the LEC?

If it's selecting...before!!!. If a TUT is on ROSI, chances are it's required by the course. If so and you are in the lec, but TUT ran out of space (it does happen for some strange reason), tell the course administrators and they'll be forced to give you a tutorial position. If you chose the TUT and the LEC sections ran out of room, then you're as good as not being in that course.

If it's timetabling...I would say after.

timetabling. definately after.

before lecture its like you do the material about the coming class before the actual learning.

if its after lecture and you have problems, they can be solved by having the TA help you instead of booking appts and other things with the prof. plus prof usually asks to go to TA before them because it might be an easy problem and wastes their time.

so definately after.

Are tutorials required to be selected seperately from the LECs? Or are they immediately timetabled once a LEC is selected.

at Western, if there is a tutorial it has to be added with the lecture or it won't let you add the course. It could vary from school to school though
