Default Changing traffic light design

Seeing some cars disregard the yellow light and endangering left turners, why don't we adopt a design where the last seconds of the green light are made known to drivers. I know the same reckless drivers will disregard the new design but at least responsible drivers will be able to use this to avoid danger.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_light

Either a additional light beside the green that shows the dying seconds of the green, or a flashing green as they have in parts of europe and asia.

The timer in the intersection crosswalks are too small to be seen when approaching the intersection from afar in a car.

I think this is probably worse, people would use the limited time to make even more dangerous turns. The pedestrian timer is already helping people run lights faster.

How about they put a brake light on the front of cars so you can better judge if someone is going to stop at a yellow light?

IMO the crosswalk timers aren't small at all (and I have average eyesight).
If you are driving at a respectable speed you should be able to see the crosswalk timer a good distance from the approaching intersection and able to stop properly if need be at that intersection.

But those pedestrian countdown timers often change back to the walking man if the side street has no cars waiting.

Actually its the left turners that need to drive safer. Most people don't know/realize that only one car can enter the intersection at a time when waiting to turn left, so only one car can make the turn when the light turns yellow/red.

Any half-ass driver can estimate if they can beat the yellow or not. People are lazy and don't care about running the red. I manage to stop before the light turns red and its the other drivers who just keep going through the red in the neighbouring lanes. I can also sucessfully beat the yellow before it turns red and can judge yellow/red light timing accordingly.

Now them problem is lazy drivers, drivers who are in a hurry, drivers who just don't care, distracted by cell phone use, eating etc.

I also find this problem happens a lot in brampton, but not outside of the g.t.a. .
