This notebook came out in early 2004, which is a lifetime ago in the computing world, so its low price now is entirely plausible.

HP isn't discounting them that cheap, atleast not to us.

It's plausable, but I am still skeptical, there is nothing obsolete about it,
It is an awsome machine, if you don't mind the girth, its ****ing huge.

Good 4 hours of battery life,

Really, it's not that big of a deal... get over it. If you've never noticed, manufacturers*always* overcharge for their items when you're buying direct. Logitech is a great example, go to their online store and see what items you can find that are not a rip off compared to even Future Shop and Staples (not to mention the smaller computer stores).
