Default Canon Digital Camera Issues/Defects

I recently developed a data error in my CF 1GB Sandisk card. I thought the problem was with my CF card, but after reading the below article I now believe it is the camera (A80).

According to the article cited the "Known" problems are:

"• The "e18" error, which locks up the lens barrel so that it will not
extended or retract, making it impossible to take photos.

• A defective CCD, which causes images to fail to appear on the LCD
screen, or causes blurry, distorted or greenish images to appear.

• Faulty LCD screens. Many consumers complain that their LCD screens are
cracked.

• Memory cards. Many consumers receive a memory card error, which
results in an inability to view or retrieve images that may be on the
memory card"

Lets hope they don't lose your camera like they lost my $1000 "L" lens when you send it for repair (then do everything not to tell you they lost it). Whatever you do, DO NOT send it to Calgary!!

Well, no point in sending it in since they still don't think there is a problem. I probably will not buy another Canon digital camera again.

Have you actually tried your CF card in another device to see if it works or can be formatted etc. and/or tried a different CF card in your camera? From what I am reading it seems that you are just concluding that your camera is broken based on that article.

Yes, yes, and no. I can't recreate the data error and this intermittent problem is one of the issues of the camera. The camera isn't broken per se, it's just flaky. It seems it doesn't like 1GB CF cards.

All I can do is keep using it and take a backup camera with me just in case.

I think also if you change the settings in the camera a fair bit you may run into this problem too. i change the pic resolution frequently depending what i am shooting.

A70: Got dust on the sensor. Can't get out. Gave camera to brother.
A80: Working fine with Lexar 1gb for last 2 years.
D50: Flash problem. Returning back to Nikon & probably getting another one (yah Costco).

I dunno, this memory card error seems to be a big issue in the states. I found a lawyer's website: http://www.zlk.com/canoncarderror.html

I returned my card to Costco today for a real refund. I like Costco.
