Default Buying a used Wii

Just a warning I read over on Craigs. There was a post on how some people were selling used Wii's to people that were damaged from improper modding. A local modder had a Wii brought to him to add a chip and when the modder opened it, he found bunt transistors and soder all over the place. The person bought a used Wii that has been damaged due to the previous owner trying to mod it.

If your buying a used Wii, make sure it wasn't opened. I believe there are sticked on the screws or look for tampering of the stickers.

I'm sure some of the guys/gals on RFD can help point out how you can tell a Wii was opened.

Just ask to meet at a place where there is power supply and try to turn the wii on,

It is reasonable to request that for buying a used item.

As for new vs used, check Wii sport and see is the Case still sealed.

Nothing is sealed in the Wii except battery (easily replaceable) and Wii sport

Unfortunately the Wii has no tampering sticks on it whatsoever.

that ad on craiglist seems to be put up by one of the sellers that just wants you to buy their premodded wiis.

It is actually very difficult to completely screw up a wii as you can always solder directly to the ic for a mod chip install. I've done this half a dozen times and charge the same as if someone just brought there console to me to get modded in the first place. If you can solder in a ps2 chip you can easily fix a botched wii install.

if they know what they are doing its very hard to tell if its been opened or not. the stickers are the best indication though, look for the two side ones and 3 on the bottom. i've figured out how to take them off and put them back so it doesnt look like its been opened, so im sure others know how to do that as well. Besides that no real way to tell.

if the stickers covering the screws are not removed with the proper method..you can tell because the average person would just peel them off and then try to restick them back on.....you can tell.

also look for marks on the tiny black screws that hold the black plate where the GC controller ports and memory ports are....some of the black paint may have come off or have some marks on them.......you can tell

look at the rubber feet (rear) on the large flat side of the wii...again if not remove properly and replaced properly..., you may see marks on the edges of the 2 rubber feet.

also with the feet and stickers...see if they are stuck on flat and smooth and centered......not rippled or bent...or anything other than flat, smooth and centered.

btw..plugging it in wont tell you anything much.... for the most part the wii is still working but the pads that you would normally install the mod is screwed up. They will all power up still.

even though those pads are screwed up...it's still moddable...if you are good with a soldering pencil, use flux ..with really steady hands.....

Have a nice day all......
