I'm going nuts trying to get the perfect TV.
I have an HTPC and plan on gaming and using the screen for web surfing from my couch too. So I need the following:

1080p
No burn-in issues
50" +
No lamps or moving parts.

The LCDs e.g. Sharp 52" are still too pricey. DLPs look great for the price, but most manufacturers have lamp issues, or colour wheel related problems.
The one model that's readily available in the U.S.A. that fits all of the above is the Samsung HL-S5679w, a DLP that uses LEDs instead of a colour wheel and lamp. Good luck finding someone in Canada that has it. (If anyone knows of a dealer in Montreal, please let me know).

FutureShop and BestBuy are crap for my needs. BB in teh US has had the tv I want for months, but not a peep over here- just the same tired old tvs week after week.

/end rant

I'm hoping to find a good 32" or 37" at around $500.

Question:
Best brand out there, which would it be?: Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, Hitachi, Pioneer, Panasonic, etc...

Sony i am in love, but is it worth the price?
Want it to be the latest and greatest as possible cause not going to be buying another tv in YEARSSSS
I am looking for a 46" LCD TV. I am looking at sony currently because the images just look so sharp in them (and for the future i am getting a ps3, currently have the wii now).
Has to be 1080p. Do not know what else is important to look for.

I'm looking at a 50" Plasma (Panasonic/Sony/Pioneer) for <1500$...might be wishful thinking at this point.

That can easily happen. Sharp may promote their 37" in the range of $1200 or so.

There's a black LG 42" LCD HDTV over @ 2001 Audio/Video for $1650.

It seems like a pretty good deal to me. Dunno how it compares to the rest of your finds though.

BTW. It's part of their boxing day sale which is going on now.

32" for 500 can easily happen no doubt.. but not sure about the 37'' though.. in case you guys are interested.. i was being told by my co-worker that japan and korea are both trying to lift up the price for LCDTV.. reason for that... they want to make more out of us... ~ don't know if it is true though.. if it is.. it is bad news for people like us who want to get a LCDTV this x'mas...
