Just bought the FP931 LCD from bureauengros (staples for outside quebec) for 447+ tax.
Seems like a good deal to me. Specs: -19IN LCD MONITOR -16MS Response Time -0.294MM -Max Resolution 1280X1024 -Contrast Ratio450:1 -ANALOG & DIGITAL - SILVER/BLACK Searching ncix, they have it on sale for $518 after a 50$ MIR. BTW, i checked the rebate and I'm wondering if this would be valid for staples also? The Rebate mentions authorized dealers, which I'm sure staples is. This would make an even better deal. Not bad for a 16 ms LCD. Staples has black or grey one? PS: Yes MIR will work on your system. |

The staples.ca in my region (Manitoba) doesn't have the FP931 on their webpage; only the FP951 is available

Contrast Ratio is the difference between the whites and blacks. With a higher contrast ratio, you get greater colour reproduction as colours have a greater contrast between them. Blacks and whites are also usually more accurate.
Basically it looks like right now with computer LCD's you either go for a faster response time with a lower contrast ratio or you go for one with a slower response time (25ms) and a higher contrast ratio. For gaming lower response time is undoubtably better because right now with my Samsung 912N (25ms), the ghosting can get irritating in games sometimes. For general internet use and such, the higher contrast ratio is really nice to have though. |

I have been searching the specifications for these two and it seems like the FP951 is 16.7 million colours compared to the FP931 with 16.2 million colours.
I have never heard of 16.2 million colours, is this really a nice way of saying that it is a 6bit/colour display? And is the FP951 really an 8bit/colour display? It does seem like it is normal for the speed to trade off with the number of colours, so this would make sence, it would make a hard decision for me though... edit: the FP931 is a 6bit/colour display, here is the anandtech review. Any information about this would be really helpful. Last edited by teddy boom; Dec 29th, 2004 at 11:31 AM.. |
