I'm thinking of going to this AYCE place called Famous Japan in Etobicoke. Has anyone been here? It's close to the Woodbine Race Track or Woodbine Mall. Lunch is pretty cheap at 8.75 during weekdays and 9.75 on the weekends. Dinner is 13.99 weekdays and 15.99 weekends. I want to know if this place is worth going to or is it a dive? Thanks for the help.

I head over there once every couple of weeks for lunch. There is a sushi buffet with very basic salmon/pollock/tuna based rolls and nigiri. They also have a chinese style buffet with various chinese buffet staples, a korean kim chi buffet, and self serve ice cream for dessert. For $8.75 at lunch it is a good deal. The food quality is average or better. I often compare it to Mandarin across the street which is more expensive, much bigger selection, but sushi is better at Famous Japan.

its pretty easy to spot. its on rexdale blvd., i believe its beside a mazda dealership (used to be a restaurant too), and across the street from GM/honda dealerships. inbetween the intersections of martingrove/rexdale and hwy 27/rexdale.

hopefully you will be able to find it based on that ;)

is this the Kindakawa place?

there's another one near EMCEE Karaoke.
or maybe that was "Taste of Japan". that place is very good too. my dad's friend's daughter works at the new branch they just opened.

finally went to this place today for lunch. it was okay. i don't know if i'll be back for lunch, maybe to try dinner when they have all you can eat sashimi. the sushi had a bit too much rice in it. we remedied the problem but taking most or all the rice off and putting it into a napkin. am i the only one that does this? the terriaki chicken was pretty good. there are 4 stations at different parts of the restaurant. I thought the raw fish wasn't cold enough, i'm probably too picky.

last time I went there was about 2 years ago.....geez....

Pretty nice food, better variety than the downtown location (yes they have another japanese buffet in downtown with a different name) and much better hot plates than any other buffet I've been before.

I'm happy this thread came up again....it's time to pay another visit... :D

Famous Japan, is an excelletn AYCE buffet.
There's a good mix of Japan/Chinese. The sushi/maki selection was impressive. Lunch for 2 including including drinks and tip was approx $25.

I've been to Famous Japan quite a few times for lunch and it's never been empty on a weekday for lunch. Lots of business people go there for lunch. I have also tried it out for dinner too..it's a lot quieter at night..many times tour groups go there too...
