Hey all,
Looking for a good deal on a portable DVD player for the van for trips, etc with the kids. Widescreen would be nice but not necessary.
Doesnt have to be super high end, but dont want something that will fall apart the first time you use it.
Found one at HBC for $299. An Akai 7" player, Model # PDV170. Anyone have any experience with these. I can also get Shinco name brand through one of my dealers.
Thanks
Ken

Whatever you do don't but a Technosonic from Future Shop. My brother-in-law bought one on their boxing day sale and it worked for about 2 months then the screen stopped working. It only came with a 30 day warranty and they are having a hard time finding somewhere to get it fixed. Let me know if you have any luck finding a good deal as I am in the market for one too :) *bump*

Check out this link (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/forum/showthread.php?t=88028). I believe Costco is also selling a similar model in the $200-300 price range. Worth checking out as a comparison.

The one at Costco is from Polaroid, comes with a case, headphones and ac adapter. I think it's sells for $279.99. A couple of weeks ago they had a $30 coupon for it. I'm not sure of the quality of this model as I've seen some bad reviews of it also.

Ended up buying an Initial, Model #: IDM-1731 from Zellers for $279. My wife had a $50 gift card she received from work. REviews look not to bad, since I cant see mysekf spening $1000 on a "name brand" one. Its mostly for the kids for the van. Guess I can try some other uses too, maybe watch a movie on the deck, or while working on the computer,
Anyone else buy this one, or have any experince with this make and model

the polariod sucked for vcd play pack, it was all fuzzy and blurry, while dvd was ok,
it heated up alot, and looked REALLY ugly, so i returned it, it came with earphone splitter, 2 heaphones, a car adapter, remote, house adapter.. ...
anyways, u can hook up a dvd player to a console, if its an expensive 1, i know my old panasonic can, i sugest the Samsun 1 which has a 17" screen, but its a little too expensive,... $600+ and not sold in canada yet...

Cant afford it right now. Besides if I want to work on the laptop, then my kids cant watch the DVD. I thought about it too, its just a cost thing
