It's sooooo good!! I love it!

CG is amazing! I love the way the army was deployed! And that chick can really kick arse!

A small part/section of the movie was in some ways similar to Pitch Black, but I don't mind that.

Hmmm...

Seems like alot of the 'critics' are bashing this film (over at rottentomatoes), but people reviews (mostly coming from dvdtalk.com) are pretty much in praise of it.
Possibly another Butterfly Effect type of movie, where critics say one thing, and the public say another.

Critics have never really praised the sci-fi genre.
Me, I'm hoping for a good time this weekend watching this.

I think the critics are being too harsh on the movie.

Over at rottentomatoes, Pitch Black got fairly decent rating. And in my opinion, this is a great movie that continues the story of the character from where it was left off.

I'm probably going to see it, but one thing that sort of bothers me from the ads and such is it seems to have gone from a sci-fi universe (as it was in pitch black) to more of a sci-fi/fantasy one.. Its like going from the aesthetic of star trek in the first movie to the aesthetic of dune in the second. Know wut I mean?

what boggles my mind is what exactly they producers were smoking to come up with the idea to make a sequel to the extremely crappy Pitchblack?

While Pitch Black is not a example of excellent film making/dialogue/characterization, it will always be remembered by me since it is the first movie my finace and I ever saw.

to be frank, i found this movie pretty boring. if it had stuck to being a serious scifi movie, without all the corny oneliners, then yes, i would put the seriousness into perspective. but all the lousy jokes and even worse the lousy audience reaction, laughing at these garbage lines, wow, i cannot recommend this film unless you enjoy watching an epic-like scifi with dumb triple x style one-liners.
the beginning started off pretty cool, then it just dragged on and on...

yep. *pats her "get into Riddick FREE"* coupon. At least I waste not money with this. I didn't think Pitch Black was that terrible. I've seen worse, and I didn't leave the theatre twitching.

This has got to be a razzie award contender. This year has been awful for movies - Eternal sunshine, Kill Bill, maybe Troy and...bleh.

I thought it was pretty good. The special effects were pretty cool, I really liked those CG tiger-like animals. I didn't see the first one though.

Wait a minute, you forgot about me, I also did NOT liked this movie, the first movie ever from my hero Diesel that I detested. Somebody here said "it was similar to Pitch Black but I don't mind". Hey man, what's wrong with you, what the hell you're talking about? You make it seem as if Pitch Black sucked and Riddick was awesome, that's not the case. The Chronicles of Riddick sucked, no plot and no purpose was found in the film, this film could have been a lot better. Only the prison scenes I liked, the rest of the movie was a conundrum as undeciphereable as Matrix Revolutions.

I'm dissapointed, the ending was stupid, so was the beginning, did the white girl and the black old man have to die? It seems as if the director wanted them dead to avoid a sequel with them, anyways, Diesel's first bombshell finally happened.

good concept, movie too short, no time to tell story. hopefully they will make another to tell us what the hell was really going on. this movie's like lord of the rings fit into an 2 hr movie. anyways i enjoyed it for the SFX and action.

Yup I agree. They cut out lots in the movie, the DVD release will have the whole thing. They even cut out a scene they showed in the trailer, showing riddicks power of some sort, you know he's crouched on the ground then opens his arm and body (looks like in pain or somerhign) and energy eminates from him pushing away his enemies. I dunno why they cut out something like that, it seems like some important unknown power of the furions

I thought it was a great movie, but I am into those dark, villian is the good guy type movies, (which is why I like From Dusk Till Dawn so much). I think Diesels bombshell was XXX that movie was pure shite IMHO. One thing they could have gotten rid of in Riddick was the chick though, they always ruin movies having characters like that.

Saw it today, and thought it was okay (although I was a little dissapointed). I'd give it a C+
Spoilers.....

First off, did anyone get a feeling of themes from Dragonball (the prophecy of the Furions and why their planet was destroyed) and from Conan (at the end w/ the throne)??

A couple of things bothered me:
1. What's with the eyes? How come the other Furion (the one who walked into the sunlight) didnt have eyes like Riddick?
2. On that prison planet, temps reached 700degrees. I dont care if the sunlight touched him or not (which it obviously did), but even if you werent in direct contact with the light, wouldnt you get baked to death?
3. Action sequences and the shaky camera... just didnt like it at all.
4. Hated the ending

1. Eyes were kool...
2. ON some planets, The other side of teh planet is COld w/out sun (ie. mars w/ no atmosphere) so really hot + cold = warm?

you had to have seen pitch black, basically riddick had the surgery so he could survive prison or something... not sure the exact reason, but they are artificial

Don't you recall from pitch black, he got a surgeon or something to rig up his badass "shinevision" for when he got thrown in the slammer. Keeps his behymen intact in those dark corners! :D

dooh, endless beat me :(

I thought so... but in the prison scene with Jack/Keira, didnt she say that there was no doctor to give 'moonshine'? I just assumed that the whole doctor thing was just a 'story' Riddick told Jack.

You can play the Chronicles of Riddick game. In the beginning you have no moonshine but you get it further in the story after surgery. Great action flick. I enjoyed it. It's kinda freaky having that little sister/love interest dynamic going. Kinda gross.
BTW, did anyone else think she looked like a skinnier version of that chick from Evanescence?

Saw it this weekend.

Really liked it.

Could have cut a lot of the Bounty Hunter/Prison stuff though.

Well I finally got around to watching the director's cut of this movie on DVD. I have to say that I enjoyed it a lot. Great action, good intro, excellent music, some pretty good acting, great special effects and I loved the one-liners. I was never bored throughout the entire movie. At first, I didn't think this movie would be that great since the last Vin Diesel movie I saw, Triple X, really sucked. After watching this movie, I'm itchin' to see Pitch Black.

The ending was kind of odd though. I mean, how can they make a 3rd Riddick movie with an ending like that?

I liked it, but they tried way too hard. All of the mythology they tried to shove down our throats, only served to slow the movie down.

Other than Riddick and Kyra, I didn't even care about the other characters. There was no Radha Mitchell (forgot her character name) this time around; the other "good guys" were bland and quickly extinguished.

There may be another 2 to make a Riddick trilogy, based on DVD sales...see how that goes.
