Whats up with all the line ups at tim hortons? I don't drink coffee unless i was studying and needed to keep awake. But i always wondered why everytime i drive by a tim hortons no matter what city i am in there are always huge line ups at the drive thru? Everyone lining up for coffee for the roll up the rim to win or are they selling something else popular like drugs lol

I hate adding more cards to my wallet. They should also make use of the "easypay" technology that the gas stations are using and give out keychain attachments.

Cool, more cards. People like to collect these things. I hope they let us take them without filling them up with money :cheesygri

Well this solves 2 problems for tims, eliminating the annoying people who would use their debit card to pay for a 80c donut and having to pay a 30c charge (or whatever) to accept the payment.
I guess it isn't really secure as in if someone stole it they could spend all your money attached to it, but I suppose most people won't have >$100 on it anyway (unless they are really addicted!)

acually if you reproted it missing in time, all they have to do is issue you an new card number and cancel the old one, these things are very basic technology, you can make similar cards with the proper ATMEL code on any of those directv card programmers.

Actually...Timmy's doesn't take debit...at least all the ones I've been to don't.
And this is a great idea...our school has a few Timmys that we can use our student cards to swipe with...really speeds things up.

Yeah that is what I meant, instead of the debt cards which wouldn't make sense for them, they implement these tims cards.

lol.... i guess it's the same as the "starbucks" cards...
it's basically another cash card...
but unlike cash, at least when you lose it... if u report quick enuff, u cud still save ur balance and transfer to a new card (as GangStarr mentioned)
honestly, don't want any more card to have to carry around... there's enuff in my wallet as it is. cash is good... unless, of course, these cashcards offer some sort of incentive - points system, or discount, or something!!!

We have about 12 Tim Hortons in London, and NONE of them take Debit. They said it's too slow. They said none of the other Tim Horton's do either... hmm.

An interesting thing to note.. I have seen the actual terminals in the stores in Oakville.. They say on them dxxstorm.com Well, it looks like DXX Storm is a publicly traded company on the venture exchange (dxx is the symbol). If this gets rolled out across the country it might be good for the stock! I have been looking into it and it seems like a half decent company.
I think these cards will be popular if they do some kind of incentives to get people to start using them (i.e. buy 20$ get $5 free)

Hmm... well every single timmies I have been to in Calgary, Red deer and Edm takes debit. Normally, I would pay cash, but from time to time, I have none so I am forced to use debit.
Guess the timmies out there just don't want to have to pay a 25 cent interac fee on lil purchases of one coffee, 2 doughnuts etc...

Just to let people know that the timcard.ca site (at http://www.timcard.ca ) is now active! So, you can recharge your card, see the balance, etc online... It is pretty neat. I am really looking forward to this getting rolled out nation wide!
I just added $10 to my card today

Tim Horton Drive Thru - Isn't it bad when all you want is a med. reg coffee but you have to wait 10 mins in the drive thru to get it meanwhile the store is empty? OR even worse - when the person in front of you orders 10 coffees, 2 dozen donuts, bagels and ice caps and all you want is just 1 coffee, but your stuck behind the soccer dad who's ordereing all those items for the rest of the parents on the soccer team?? This is a personal experience - I now get out of the car and order in the store now, less stressful that way. The things we have to go thru just to have a coffee!

Is the site fully running and legit or not? Even though the site is running on SSL 128 bit, the only working link on the web site is "Wendy's". The other links like "About Tim Hortons", "What's New", "What's In Store"... etc. are not working at all.

Not sure if everyone is aware or not but the Timcard is here / coming. Go to www.timcard.ca . I haven't got one yet. Tried two Timmies by my house tonight and neither had them, both said they should have them tomorrow. This is going to be a lot more convenient.

I worked at Timmies for 4 years. It would be up to the owner if they wanted to use debit. My last owner is too cheap, he wouldn't do that ever :) .
I worked at a drivethru for 2 weeks. It was horrible. I was working evenings (M-F) off of a busy road. One girl did front, I did drivethru. 2 more girls at LEAST were needed at the location. After a week I talked to the supervisor that we constantly had drivethru people get annoyed and end up just zipping by not picking up their order. Or they'd come in and realise the line up inside was just as worse. Well, she was new. She spoke to the owners and there was a new supervisor the next day. So I roughed it out for one more week. When my last owner was mentioning putting in a drivethru I looked horrified. We already needed one more girl for my shift and the thought of him putting in a drivethru made me want to run.:)
My other store had been sold and I refused to work by myself at my location because it was at a Toronto subway and the shift I did in the evenings brought out the wackos. It's the Pape subway and the store is actually attached to the outside so it's not like anyone can see what's going on in our store. The subway security would go through and we'd give them fee coffee to encourage them to come more often:). Min wage is not worth my life.

doesnt mean its still not iconically canadian.

What the hell does the ownership have to do with it? Timmies is crap no matter who runs it. Their coffee stinks like horse manure and their donuts taste like puke.

90% of NHL teams are American, and don't pretend to be Canadian. Tim Hortons centres their entire advertising campaigns around the "fact" that they are a piece of Canadiana...
Timmies sucks no matter who owns it, and this is generally due to the fact that they will franchise to just about anybody whose pockets are deep enough. I am not saying they are bad business, they do what they do pretty well.
The other question I have is why doesn't anyone hammer Tims for thier lack of Fair Trade coffee use the way Starbucks gets nailed? Starbucks tries, has a strong social responsibility and stll gets vilified, but no one ever questions tims impact on coffee farms or the environmnent. I am not trying to back Starbucks here, just trying to understand the double standard.

of course not. Non of the NHL teams do that.
Im just trying to say how most of the professional hockey teams are now american, but that still doesnt make Hockey any less Canadian in our culture.
But thats just business....... Wendy's was big enough and smart enough to buy tim hortons, and now they profiting off it.

When we first get the card, are we supposed to put a balance on it and pay at the cashier?
I went to tim hortons last night and ordered a coffee and paid in cash. Then i asked them about the timcard and the cashier didn't know what i was talking about. Then another employee came up and said that they do have the timcard.
The cashier then got the manager to come and she asked me how much I wanted to add to the card. I told her $10 and she told me that was the minimum balance for the card. So then she got the card, swiped it in the machine, added $10 to it and handed it to me. Then they just took the order of the next person in line.
I just activated my card online and it said that the balance on my card is $10.00, but the thing is, I never even paid them $10 lol. So did I just score 10 bucks from them or am I missing something here?

Its probably because tim hortons is still using the old panasonic tills that are like 25 years old. newer tills that all other businesses with gift cards use require you to pay before being able to put a balance on the gift card. funny how tims can have lcd/plasma menuboard screens but wont upgrade their cashier system.
