I think the roofers have screwed up my new shingles - serious fishmouthing shingles shown in the photo. Since the old shingles was removed completely, the new shingles supposed to be flat. Yet, they said there is nothing wrong with their installation and refused to take care of it. They're just finishing it up today. So I have not pay them yet. What should I do?

That looks pretty bad, I hope the situation gets resolved for you :( Shingles do have to set in the hot sun for a while...but I dont think they should look like that.
Can you get another roofer company worker to come over and look at it and confirm its not supposed to be like that? Then you can be 100% sure its a faulty job and go from there.
Dont pay if you arent sure its a good job, tell them to wait for a bit.

What roofing company did you go with?

If you're really concerned about it then hold back 10%, although I've seen that before when installing shingles in colder weather and it tends to settle during some hot sunny days. Again it's up to you but check the paperwork just in case re warranty. Once they have 100% of the money sometimes you don't get quick restitution.

exactly right now is a bad time to get your roof done as the glue on the shingles wont settle in time unless we get some nice sunny warm days.

That's what I thought as well. My parents need to do the roof at their place and the place that sold us the shingles had said that it was way too late now to do it and to save it until spring.

I wouldn't know if it was normal or not, but if in fact it is normal due to cooler temperatures, then I would be very careful about proclaiming the contractor did bad work and stating what company it is.
Also, if it is normal, then holding back anything more than 10% for longer than legally allowed could also be problematic as the company needs to pay for materials and labour costs.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a few more warm days this year and that should allow them to settle, even though the glue might not set until next year.

Well, in my opinion, this is not normal. There is nothing normal about it. I have seen shingles done in the dead of winter and have never seen this at all.
C'mon folks, they don't stop building and finishing houses in the Winter. They shingle all year round. They are flat and they lay flat when installed. It has nothing to do with the "glue" activation.
There is something seriously wrong with the installation here.

That looks very strange.
I don't think it's the weather. We had our roof done last week and it's fine. The shingles are flat. Our roofer told us his crew works all year round, even in the dead of winter.

Looks to be an area where one bundle would do it and the bundle was most likely not on flat ground. Which causes the shingles to look like this. But after a few days they WILL flatten down.
