Hi,
I recently signed up for a free month of credit alert plus through TD visa. Towards the end of the 30 days, I get an email of new activity, and find out there is a (large) collection attached to my account. I phoned Credit Alert Plus, who directed me to Equifax, and I found out who the collection agency is and the original company trying to collect the debt. I phoned both of them, and they had no record of me, my address, or my birthday in their systems. From the collection agency I found out that they were looking for someone with my name, but a different birthday and address.

But, neither would do anything about the collection attached to me. Since I was not at all in their systems, they said it shouldn't be attached to me-but it is!, and they still refused to act. So, I phoned back Equifax, and they are doing an investigation, which will take 20-25 days.

I find that it is highly suspicious that something odd happen to my credit report during my 30 day trial. Is Credit Alert Plus legit? Has this happened to others? Or is it just a bid coincidence?

I had a free subscription to Credit Alert with my HBC Mastercard a couple of years ago. I didnt notice any activity on my credit file because of it.
