I'm looking for recommendations if you've stayed in a hotel inside the old city of Quebec (specifically the cobblestone street areas). Any good deals/rates? Looking to stay 5 nights in Dec.

Also, any good things to do in the area? Any good spas? What are some activities I can plan out there, besides good food :)

Much appreciated! :)

My wife and I stayed a bunch of times at Manoir de l'Esplanade (http://www.manoiresplanade.ca/) and once at Marie-Rollet (http://www.hotelmarierollet.com/). Both are very nice, old hotels. At the Manoir de l'Esplanade we usually try to get a room at the top floor, with a window towards the river. Great view at night.

You might want to take a look at oldquebecboutiquehotels.com (http://www.oldquebecboutiquehotels.com/).

Thanks for the recommendations, what a fantastic site, I'll be browsing through and make my accomodation choice soon!

What are some fun/leisurely activities or great places to go in the area would you recommend? Good places to eat as well?

There are many historic sites inside the old city and just outside the walls. A good way to get a tour of the city is by horse drawn carriage.

I suggest the site HomeAndAbroad.com (http://www.homeandabroad.com/browse/list/sites.ha?destId=62). I found it very helpful when I planned my trip to Quebec City in the summer. Also, if you can get hold of the Frommer's book they have some walking tours mapped out.

We've never been during winter so I won't be able to recommend any activities but as far as places to eat, I highly recommend Café Bistro L'Omelette (http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-CA:official&hs=Ztg&resnum=0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=l%27omelette+quebec&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=l%27omelette&hnear=quebec&cid=0,0,1780313690577116132&ei=UQX6SrnIAY3enAfGhJXpDA&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CAgQnwIwAA) for breakfast and for dinner, give Aux Anciens Canadiens (http://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&hs=ga1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=Aux+Anciens+Canadiens+quebec&fb=1&gl=ca&hq=Aux+Anciens+Canadiens&hnear=quebec&cid=0,0,11802937815623887411&ei=wwX6SuzLH8_cnAf01uWDDQ&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CAgQnwIwAA) a try.

While not an old hotel, a very nice hotel (their new section) is the Chateau Laurier http://www.vieuxquebec.com/en/laurier/ with full services including a pool and gym. While tecnically outside the walls, they are located just across the street (Grand Alle) from the legislature. The wall is 2 minutes from their front door at most.

I was just there this week for business.

I've also stayed at their sister hotel within the city walls, the Bellevue.

and have a beer or 2 here http://www.pubstalexandre.com/fr.html#ALBUM1

have a glass of wine here http://www.papegeorges.com/sa.html and if you can try their chili. This wine bar is in the lower part of old Quebec that is called petit champlain

What kind of restaurant are you looking for?

PapeGeorges has live music on Saturday nights. Pub Antoine (sp?) has $5 draughts. In the old, old city, Bistro Sous La Fort is a great restaurant with affordable prices.
