I'll be heading from Toronto to Dominica (Caribbean island... not Dominican Republic) in early December (dates flexible from Dec 3rd- 9th, 2009) and staying for around 3 months, at least ( Feb 25- early March 2010.)

I think I've checked most of the well known travel booking/ flight search engines ( Softvoyage based and related) at this point, so I was just hoping someone else has made this trip recently or some time in the past, and could offer some advice on a comparatively good route to go with, to get to Dominica?

So far, I've looked into the Westjet/ Liat combo (Westjet from Toronto to Barbados, Liat from Barbados to Dominica (DOM)), American Airlines (From Toronto to San Juan PR - then Liat to DOM), Air Canada and quite a few others (checking various options when it comes to flying from Toronto to other popular Caribbean destinations, like Antigua or St Lucia, first, then booking with LIAT separately to go the rest of the way to DOM, etc.)

But, for the most part, all airline/ flight combinations seem to come out to the same basic $875 - 1200 (CAD) price range (been searching for more than a month, now), and they all seem to have at least one very lengthy layover (anywhere from 11 hrs to 23hrs, plus.)

I've even looked into the option of flying to Guadeloupe or Martinique and taking a ferry service the rest of the way to Dominica, but that combination is still coming out to around that same $875 plus, price range.

The cheapest flight option I've come across up to this point, has been just over $700 (CAD), but that is/was with a 23hr layover in Barbados, and I'd really prefer to find something in the 7-11 hr maximum layover range, if possible, so I don't have to worry about having to spend even more money on leaving the airport to find a place to sleep for the night and finding food to eat while I wait out that 23hrs for my next flight to arrive.

If anyone has any personal experience on what route/ option they found to be best, or just advice, in general, please let me know.

Thanks
