So I've lost a phone...the Rogers website says to call RIGHT AWAY...yet the Rogers calling tree tells me no one is there except for 'regular business hours' and then doesn't DEFINE what the hell they mean by that.

I'll be pissed if my phone is being used and I'm on the hook even though I'm TRYING to contact them.

Anyone know a back door solution here?

Well, surely there's a mom or dad or home contact in phonebook.
Have you tried calling any of them?
If not, then just call any random person in phone book and tell them the owner lost his phone.

Forget Rogers for now because it involves leaving the phone at any Rogers store and then they will contact the owner. It's a hassle.

This is probably obvious, but.......did you try calling your cell phone # and if someone honest found it they may answer and your problem is solved.

Try this:

What should I do if I've lost my phone or if it's stolen?

Call General at 1-888-764-3771 immediately to report your phone missing.

Rogers Wireless will suspend the phone and block it from any further use. Otherwise you will be liable for any usage incurred with the missing phone. Once you've called General, a representative will provide you with options to obtain another phone (if necessary).

Wireless Inquiries (From the US) 1-877-764-3772
Wireless Inquiries (Other Countries than Canada and US) 1-416-935-5555

Yep...you'd think. I've tried last evening and this morning now...

I have an old phone and SIM so I just need to get the thing cancelled and the new one activated...can they do all this by phone or will I need to go to a Rogers store?

Yes...that IS the number I'm calling to report immediately...there is no one there! Thats the issue. I guess the question is: Does anyone know their 'business hours'...since their calling tree doesn't tell me nor does the website from what I can see.

Hmm.... interesting lol. I've called for billing issues on a Sunday, try that. If that doesn't work, try technical support. There is 24/7 support somewhere at Rogers, you just have to figure out where :D

Is it capable of SMS? Send a text from another cell. If you don't have one handy, sign up here with your email, you have to wait 5-15min for the validation code in your email inbox, enter and continue to create a free account. Send your phone a webtext from your browser. Some people are weary of answering voice calls, instead send a message to the effect of "If you found me, please call (your home #)"

I've tried various free web to text sites, most send "you have a message from (a series of numbers)" that you have to send a text to read it. On the other hand, I find Rogers works and sends your actual text.

If you get no reply, either the battery is dead, the phone is not near anyone, the phone is damaged, the person can't read English, or the person is a douche and has other plans with your phone.

If you get no answer depending on your comfort level of how long you want to wait, continue to try to reach a Rogers CSR.

In the future, have a lock code always set so an unscrupulous finder can't freebie call all over the place.

Question to others: When operators cancel an IMEI, can it be reinstated remotely if you find your phone and does it cost anything? Or do they block it temporarily some other way?

i'm pretty sure rogers cannot block IMEIs.. or if they can, they choose not to.. i've never heard of it happening here... bell and telus on the other hand can block ESNs as far as i can recall... not sure the process though.
rogers blocks SIM cards.. and once a simcard is deactivated, it cannot be used again.

Does the Rogers phone system actually tell you to call during business hours and fail to define what are said business hours? This is ret@rded beyond normal human tardness.

Is Rogers ran by a bunch of sociopaths or something?

....once a simcard is deactivated, it cannot be used again.

You can put a lost/stolen/block on an account (linked to your sim card). If you relocated the sim/phone you can *remove* said LSB. This is not permanent, don't fret.

Sim cards:
One may register a sim to a line once and once only. Once registered you can't deregister *to be used on another line*. You can register far more than one sim on any line simultaneously. No harm...just wasting the sim cards.
activate: You can activate only ONE sim card at any one time on a line.

pretty sure you can just say "customer service" and they will be able to stop the sim for you
