Before seeing a lawyer I'm trying to do the legwork to see how to declare a legal guardian for a minor in Ontario. I'm having no luck googling to find out what it actually takes to get this done. Anybody know, or know what I should be googling for?
Thanks

Don't you just ask someone to be the legal guardian, then put "I want X to be the legal guardian of my children" in your will if they agree?

Not sure if the OP's particular situation is different, however this is exactly what my wife and I did in our wills; we appointed a total of 4 guardians in a specific order (ie they would be chosen sequentially if each prior one wasn't alive) - I'm hoping none will ever be called upon, but our lawyer pointed out that there's no reason not to name multiple guardians, and while having a specified guardian die before being called wasn't exactly common, it has happened....

Sorry I should have been more clear. I think what I need to find out is how to appoint someone as temporary guardian right now, so they can act as legal guardian right away.
Does anybody know what this entails?
I've read something online that says you just need to write it down formally and get it notarized however that wasn't specifically for ontario law.
