We're replacing the window in our son's room. He's almost 2 years old and we're planning on living in the house for at least 10 years. I'm just wondering what type of window other parents would recommend. The windows that swing open look nice, but I'm worried about them being unsafe for kids. Do kids actually try to climb out of windows or push the screens? I've seen single and double hung windows that tilt inwards that seem much safer, but less aesthetically pleasing.
Any recs would be appreciated.
Thanks

We put in double hung tilt in windows - but we don't consider them ugly. I think they are safer because we only pull the top down and never the bottom up. Our old windows only went up and the kids were poking the screens. Our newer windows also have stoppers you can put out so the window will only open a few inches if you do open the bottom up. I wouldn't say kids often climb on the windows but it is nice to have one less thing to worry about.

If you like the styling of casement windows (the ones that swing out) you can get limiters that prevent them from opening far enough for a kid to crawl out. Screens are not meant to keep kids from falling out, just bugs from getting in. One of the companies I install for have stickers on their screens which say Warning - Kids can't fly.
