I am looking to buy some very high quality shoes that I can call an investment. Budget <$600. I am looking at Salvatore Feragammos at Rosen's but was wonderign where else can I find shoes in a $300-600 range aside from the usual suspects of Rosen & Holts.
Thanks

I'm also curious about this. What makes are you specifically looking at? I've been looking around Toronto for Church's but so far haven't found any at all. I don't even know what makes of formal shoe are decent besides Church's -- what do you think?

If you can find Alden's in shell cordovan leather, you'll have yourself a pair of very fine, well made, last forever shoes. In fact, if you find them anywhere in Canada, be sure to post where you found them.

I'm not a guy but know a lot of people that buy Bally shoes.
Those are Italian, you can buy them in Canada but not really sure where.
Holts maybe?
I like the styles of J shoes and in Canada town shoes only has the mens ones.
you can buy the womens styles in the US.
They are more funky and modern styled, not sure about durability though.
Bally is very classic though.

Brooks Brothers sells rebadged shoes from some nice companies. The made in England Peals are Alfred Sargent or Crockett and Jones and I think they sell Cordoven Aldens as well.
edit: Just checked their site, no more Cordovan

Bally is not Italian...it's Swiss...Bally Switzerland.
There are no Bally ADs in Canada. You will have to go the NYC for Bally.
Although, they have a very good online store but you will need a US card and shipping address, maybe a relative or a friend can pick up a pair for you.

Oh, oops.
I thought some of the Bally products were actually made in Italy.
Had no clue as it was only sold in the US as I've been to their new york city shop :)
Also, I go to the US often so did not even realize that you needed a US address for shipping:lol:
I thought most of the high end brands were usually made in Italy or France.
I was only looking at their bags lately and some were made in Italy it seems.
All Bally shoes and Bally bags are made with painstaking attention to detail in either Switzerland or Italy. Using only the finest leathers the world has to offer.

so I'm not entirely wrong.
Just like some other designers and brands like Calvin Klein, ralph lauren- they are American brands yet I have seen some Made in Italy bags.
So a company being a "brand" from a certain place does not mean the item is made there at all.
Like Coach used to be american made or so I was told and now is all "made in china".

My husband always goes to Miller's in Hamilton. They carry alot of really high end shoes, and large sizes, which he needs.
The store is in awful part of Hamilton, but the shoe selection is great. Or you can order on line, if you know exactly what you need.

David's (especially their store at Bay/Bloor) have high end shoes as does the bigger Brown's stores, say, at Yorkdale. As well, if you go into the boutique stores such as Gucci, you'll see men's shoes there as well.

fwiw, do not pay retail if you can avoid it. High quality/price shoes in TO aren't something that sell so when there are sales at holts, harrys etc, you routinely see >55% discounts.
Now, the sad part isn't that the price is that low, it's that it was that expensive to begin with.
Those brands in Toronto often sell for 1.5-2x what they do in the states so that's why the stores discount so deeply during sales. I once got some Ferragamos Revival black dress shoes at $410 (retail is >700) so it's possible to get stuff, just have to have patience.

+1 on that, if anybody is able to find out who sells it in Toronto then give me a heads up, need to invest in a good pair of dress shoes

i second this! friendly, attentive service & they have this 'points card' thing that allows you to get a discount depending on the number of points you have.

From what I remember, Bally used to be available in Canada (many years ago from when I was young, I only really know because my parents love wearing Bally shoes!) but after a while they closed up shop here (sadly just like M&S)...

+1 on the Alden's. I picked up a pair of Indy's from http://www.leathersoulhawaii.com/. If I could find an Alden dealer around Toronto I would raid them asap.
