creature living under my deck

My daughter took this picture the other day. I'm guessing that it's an opossum, but this one's new to my area...up to now I've only had to deal with the occasional raccoon and skunk.

Anyone have experience with these creatures? should I live and let live or maybe pull a granny Clampett and make some "possum" dip??

Pretty big possum!!

Friendly little critters as they dont normally bite. But dont think its safe to let it live under your deck. It can transmit rabies. If it wont go away, call animal control.

Wow, that's pretty big... I don't know much about them, but I wouldn't want wild animals living there... might leave bacterial-infested doo-doo all over the place.

Can't tell the scale from the pic (deck boards look wider than 2x6), but it looks like a rat to me.

That is a good sized possum considering that the patio stones are 24"x30".
