We live in Fraser Valley but are willing to travel to Vancouver for a nice suit. Our budget was initially around $500 but we are willing to spend more if it is worth it. My husband is a 2yr call lawyer and he feels that it is time to upgrade his suit.
Please recommend shops or tailors in Fraser Valley or greater Vancouver. We would also like to know if it would be worthwhile going down to the the Seattle premium outlet for suits. My banker told me that he gets his suits there. Thanks so much.

Maybe try the men's floor at the Bay Downtown Vancouver?

If your husband can wear most off the rack stuff (doesn't need much alteration), then you should definitely check out the hugo boss outlet (avg price was around $400 mark) at Seattle Premium Outlets or at the Nordstorm Rack Outlets near seattle. If alterations are necessary, then there's also the option of buying it there, and bringing it to a local alteration store.
A suit at Harry Rosen hovers around the 1K mark, but you get awesome service and free in house alterations.

How do you buy a suit from ebay or online? How do you measure your size? Should it be done by a professional?
My husband is a bit on the heavy side. His waste is 36 or 38. Is this a common size? He has big arms.

You can try suits locally, then once you know the size, buy online.
Becareful with cut. Suits with the same size but with a different cut will probably not fit as well.

Your hubby needs to try on a few suits and shirts and get to know the process. Some styles can make you look fat or bulky. Some ppl have longer arms, some people have thick necks, slopy shoulder, etc. There are a lot of guys who look terrible in their suits and they don't even know it. The best fit is always from someone who takes your measurements and makes a bespoke suit. If you buy a name brand, it may mean that the fabric is nice. However, a brand doesn't mean it will fit and flatter you the best. So, I would suggest that, at this early stage, do not buy online. Ask salespeople for their opinion about what looks flattering. It is really easy to throw your money away, so spend wisely and work your way up. Don't rush and try to learn things along the way.
Some guys who know their stuff can buy vintage suits off ebay for low prices. They know their measurements, of course. I would think it is problematic, though.

FYI: Moore's is having a buy one get one free on selected designer suits. Also, Tip Top Tailors is having a sale.
