Hi there,
A couple of weeks ago, my mom had been reading on the Internet how DVD's dont last forever and they might someday not work. After trying to argue that she takes good enough care of them, and that that "DVD-degrading" thing probabily wont happen until 20+ years, but she wouldn't have any of it.
After finding out that I have a 750GB hard drive, she "insisted" that I "convert all of her DVD's (home, and normal movies) so that they are on the computer"
She has over 100 DVD's and she doesnt realize that ripping and encoding movies takes QUITE a bit of time, but it got me thinking of finally investing in a cheap "movie-only" computer.
I did a bit of research and fonud that the cheapest HD-Capable build would be ~350 bucks. But knowing how I've never got into the HD craze (gasp!) I don't think HD is that much of a deal, if it can save me a few bucks.
Yes, I am a cheapskate to the extreme.
Anyways, enough of my pointless banter. Here's the low-down on what I need:
mini-itx case (Any will do, preferably a quiet one, but meh)
1GB Ram (Probabily going to get a Corsair stick, and that's it)
Hard drive
The motherboard and graphics card will only need to be as capable as playing 480P. That's all I need.
Tanks
