Girlfriend and I are desperately looking for a place to stay in New York for 3 nights that won't break our wallets and doesn't need a credit card
We'll be there from the 25th to 28th of November, as our first time in new york city. Theres a YMCA in harlem that doesn't charge much but I've heard Harlem is a great place to get robbed and shot in the face.
We're looking for someplace safe at least.
Thanks!! :(

Found a great place for you and your GF.
Stunning view. Right in the heart of the big apple.

Harlem has a bad reputation, but honestly, these days it's much safer than most people think. I still feel safer in Toronto than I do in Harlem, but I've been up in Harlem late at night many times and at no point did I really feel that I was in danger. There's a lot of people around and there's a lot of businesses that are open late at night. I wouldn't worry too much.

You're screwed, to put it mildly. Do the math:
prefer manhattan location + US thanksgiving (ie. Black Friday, Macy parade) + upcoming lighting of the Rockefeller christmas tree AND you have no credit card = motel 6 in New Jersey!

Maybe you could try those short term apartment rentals. Most university kids are going home that week so they'd be out to make a little cash. Look into Craigslist.

Buy a prepaid MC with cash and find something on Priceline or Hotwire.
There's a YMCA on the West side, walking distance to Lincoln center, but you can Priceline/Hotwire a hotel room for cheaper than that.

We always stay at the Days Inn or Super 8 in North Bergen, New Jersey. It's way cheaper and only a short shuttle ride into the heart of times square from there.

+1. I think this is the best option and you can check out betterbidding.com to figure out how to use priceline. Try and get a place in Jersey City it will be cheaper than staying in Manhattan and you can access New York by taking the PATH system.
