Hi - the CT website says 4l. I do like to find containers that are larger than 4l so that I don't need to buy that extra litre which is usually a deal breaker. In this case the 1l is on sale as well, so 15bux total is not bad.

BTW - I always used to change my own oil until about 10years ago when it was only a couple extra bux to let the dealer do it. Now the dealer charges 50bux so I went back to doing my own. Last week I changed the oil in my 2005 GMC for the first time. I had the GM dealer do their $50 oil-lube-filter since the vehicle was new. When I went to lube the tie-rod-ends I found the the boots were absolutely collapsed. That is they had NEVER been lubed. I wouldn't doubt that you could say the same about the filter and possibly the oil!

It is indeed a 4.4L jug. I bought two today and received two free filters. I'll be doing the oil change on the minivan this weekend and then will have enough to do it again in the spring. Can't beat 12.50 for an oil change. :)

OK, get this: I was just at the CT at Dundas and Clarke in London. They REFUSED to give me a free oil filter!!!!!!!!!!!!! They said the filter was not free and "BONUS" did not mean free. I left disgusted.

I immediately called CT customer service and complained. The woman on the line said that "Bonus" did indeed mean free and had no idea why the store had refused the filter. She apologized and said she would contact the store.

This is a ridiculous situation. If they don't do something to resolve this, I am going to cancel my Options Mastercard and stop shopping there unless absolutely necessary.

Unbelievable.

Any kind of oil from Shell will be good quality oil. UOAs on this oil have shown it to have a very good additive pack and excellent TBN upon draining. You can dis the house brand oil filter all you want, but Formula 1 motor oil is good stuff.

Even then... the new Made-in-China filters seem to be built much better than the Fram crap they've been selling for years. There's a anti-drainback (?) spring inside, something the Frams have never had. The weighting is different too, the Fram is noticeably lighter.

Just something to keep in mind.

Where does it say that they give you the "bonus" filter? Can't find it anywhere on the item description on the site. (Product #28-8911-0)

Update - OP is right. The jug is 4.4l. I just picked-up four. Great, 4.4l will fit my engine perfectly.

Just to respond to some of the other posters...
The weekly flyer indicates a bonus filter but the website makes no mention.

When I went to pay, the girl said she would have to make 2 transactions as the "coupon" for the filter has a limit of 2. She then got a book of coupons and took care of the whole thing (I didn't have to do nuthin).

Also, you'll shell out a couple of bux for the ecofee.

The spring is typically part of the bypass valve mechanism, that allows oil to flow through the canister if the media ever gets clogged.
The knock against some Fram was that this spring was made out of plastic.

The anti-drainback is the rubber ring (nitrile or silicone) behind the periphery holes that only allow oil to enter and not drain back out (the oil flows in on the periphery and out the center hole).

Thanks, found it on the front page of the flyer. Off to Crappy Tire I go.

Thanks for the correction.

Plastic spring? I don't ever remember seeing any spring when looking down the centre of Fram's filters.

Another problem with the Fram Extraguard filters is the low surface area of the filter media and the cardboard construction of the endcaps. It's not a huge issue, but you can get much better filters for the same price.

My husband picked up eight of these oils for our vehicles. The cashier had a coupon to attach to the receipt. They basically scanned everything and then changed the filter price to zero.

Good luck!

It is retarted, they have to scan a coupon for this to work. At the CT I went to, the cashier had no clue what to do. At first she tried to charge me for the filters. After reading about your experience, I had the flyer in hand, which I showed to her. Then she had to ask two other employees what to do, before she found one that knew about the coupon. The coupon was not at the cash register, it was at the customer service desk.

I can't believe CT would put this on the front page of the flyer and not make sure the cashiers know what to do with it.

At the end, still a good deal though, $30 for oil and filters for both our vehicles.

You're not the only one experiencing BS due to this. I picked up this deal in Kitchener on Friday (a day early, it turns out, but they were willing to honour it). Asked the auto parts guy what filters it covered, and he said the motomaster filters, and looked up the part number for my car (2001 Corolla).

At the cash, they tried to tell me that it was only good for the one in the picture, despite there being a price range. I said, seriously, CT is going to print expensive ads so that only someone with a 1984 Buick can get the deal? Why bother?!

Fortunately, the manager agreed with me and gave me my filters for free. :)

Ok forget my earlier post, I did two oil changes today and they are indeed 4.4L bottles. I'm going to pick up a couple more as getting an oil change with new filter for 12.49 is awesome.

Well, it's Monday and no one has contacted me from Canadian Tire yet. I think I'll call to cancel my Options Mastercard and see what they do...

Same experience here. The cash refused the free filter for my car because on the coupon, it specifically states that it's only valid for one specific filter. I'm like WTF? In any case, I told them to keep their oil and filter.

This is funny because I'm having no issues getting the free oil and filter here but when Mobil 1 was on sale one store tried telling me that the only Mobil 1 on sale was the type in the picture even though it said assorted grades! I had to go to another store to get the oil I wanted on sale there.

Thanks op,

picked up two jugs with two free filters.

Still had to pay the 50 cent "eco-fee" for each filter, but great deal!
