I was at the local Markham/Hwy14 Costco and saw they have another style of range hood. Price was $139.99 which I thought was great for a SS model.
Of course similiar to the other unit it was made by Nexstar (sp?) and looked similar to the picture below. 3 Speed model with rating of 300CFM. Not SOANES noise rating but I guess you can try one and send it back if too loud.

* Note this is not an exact pic but a similar model sold at Costco.

I think 300CFM is very weak.

Yeah, I haven't bought one for that reason. The others I looked at home depot were rated 280-500 CFM so it's near the bottom but still not extremely off. Good price point though.

A bit off-topic, but I've been looking to get an OTR microwave (http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0770HDS0010128206&catid=10879&logon=&langid=EN) from Futureshop, it's rated at 221 CFM. My current range hood (http://www.canadianappliance.ca/p-RH3730XLS.html) is rated at 190 CFM vertical and 190 CFM horizontal (despite the site lists it as 160 CFM). Anyone know what the vertical CFM and horizontal CFM are? Why do they list the hor/vert CFM when most other appliances just list one CFM rating?
I really want to move my microwave off my counter as it's pretty big and I don't have a whole lot of counter space. Should I go for the OTR microwave or do people never recommend these things over range hoods?

300CFM is too little, get something in the 600 CFM range.
