Does anyone know if the current code in Toronto requires that the dishwasher be hooked by to a GFCI outlet? I have read that standalone appliances, that that are connected/hardwired to a single circuit do not require the GFCI but I am not sure if that info was out of date.

They installed a GFIC when I got my dishwasher 3 years ago.

I don't have the Ontario version but I have the "Electrical Code Simplified" 2009 edition for Alberta/Man/Sask/NB/NS/Nfld and there's nothing that I can find which indicates GFCI is required as long as it's hard wired. Ontario might be different though.
