View Full Version : Good frozen dinners under $3?

I'm looking for suggestions for frozen dinners that are filling for under $3. Too cold to go bargain-hunting at food courts, and too busy (lazy?) to make lunch for work (sick of noodles and sandwiches).
Any type of food is okay ... must be micro-waveable. And no, Lean Cuisine even when on sale, is not filling :-)

How about 3 Lean Cuisines when they're on sale for $1 each?

I have never been able to find a frozen dinner that fills me up and isn't disgusting. It's like it just doesn't exist. I have to eat 2 to be full, and by then ive paid more than i would have to just make fresh food.

The Knorr frozen pasta skillet meals. You can make those in the microwave, but they are on sale for $7.99 but you can get 3x portions out of the bag.
You just have to cut open the bag at home and divide it in 3 before cooking.
PC also has some new meals like that that are supposed to be good and even cheaper.
have not tried pc, so can comment on knorr only!

This is just a lil over $3.
Unless u can catch the sale.
They have a big selection and I've gotten them from TnT or at Loblaws.
I find its the best asian microwave food avail.
And its tasty and the portion is really good.

One day, take 3-4 hours to make a few big batches of meals, and then freeze them in reusable containers. Make sure to date them too lol. I pretty much survived my 1st year of University living outside of campus like this.
The only day I'm free, which was Saturday, I'd make a trip to the grocery store, buy a crapload of ingredients, about $40-$50 if you shop accordingly. Then head home and made a large batch of fried rice, chili, stir fry veggies and chicken, and cannelloni. Then I put them in multiple containers and froze them, about 25-30 small square tupperware boxes. So whenever/whatever I felt like eating during the next week, I'd just take it out of the freezer and microwave it if I'm lazy, or re-cook it if I'm not :P
However, if you have to buy frozen food packs(which are loaded with preservatives I hear...), wait til one of those grocery chain has those $1 sales and go wild :D

Not really because you paid for them already.
So unless you got the food for free and then froze it, it can not be free:lol:

M&M's butter chicken is orgasmic, but really expensive. I'm sure it's loaded with sugar, cream, sodium and a tonne of butter to make it so tasty >:(

At RCSS they sell perogies in 2kg bags at around $3-4. The Cheddar and the Bacon I like the most, and the Onion goes in 3rd place. I eat this with sour cream mixed with some seasoning salt to give it a lil spice. Very yummy and filling and I can last like 2 days just eating 1 of these bags. I'm getting addicted to these.

The only Hungry Man worth eating is the sports grill one with fried chicken and cheese fries.
I like:
Michelina's
- mac n cheese
-spaghetti
-lasagna
Frozen Pizza is good too.

I picked up some Stouffers Skillet sensations a while back from No Frills for $2.47. They are definitely a 2+ person dinner. Everything is included so no prep!

Stouffers Meat Lasagna and Veal Parmigiana are good. They go on sale pretty regularly for $2-$2.50.
PC General Tao Chicken or the Cashew Chicken are pretty tasty. They're not cheap though, $3.99 but pretty filling.

why don't you buy a large frozen lasagna, chicken pot pie, etc.. then portion it into whatever size you like. it will work out to less than $3 per portion and it's not as gross as those lean cuisines or whatever.

That stuff is so salty it's disgusting. It's even saltier than your cheap no-name frozen dinners (who are already Na-loaded!)

I had some major cravings for these a few weeks ago and ate like half a bag in 2 days.....and now cant even look at them. Crazy pregnancy hormones I guess.

Yeah, they're pretty good when you can get them on special.
I can eat a whole one if I'm really hungry.
Very easy to cook in the microwave.

The problem with those tiny Michelina's "meals" is that they hardly put any meat in them.
It takes about 3 of them to put any dent in your stomach.

I like these steamer ones. Pretty sure they're on sale at Walmart for $2.97 this week. (usually $3.97 elsewhere)
Oh and there seems to be a $2 off coupon on that site. :D

Yea, the steamers are pretty good. I like them. Primarily the General Tao's, and the sesame ones.

I can't believe no one mentioned the Blue Menu items from PC.
I've tried a lot of different kinds but these are the only ones that are healthy and taste good and when they go on sale, you can find them for $1.99-$2.99 each.

Thanks for all the suggestions! Now I can't get full on less than 350g of food, so I guess I'll go with a list and check out the weights of the dishes mentioned here ...
Hungry Man's a tad too rich for me, and Michelina's too small, but the others sound good! I did buy a batch of PC's rogan? lamb/rice but too much rice, not enough meat/gravy.
And how do you make perogies tasty? They taste quite "doughy" to me.

Haven't tried the general tao or sesame one though.
