so is the first desktop actually available in store? Seems like a decent enough deal to me.

Depends on how much leg work you want to put into it. I know there are 4 in my area.

What is the intent of this thread anyway? If you're posting deals that are not online, how does it benefit any RFD'er that can't get to a specific store mentioned within a matter of minutes?

I just don't see how compiling a list of items where only a few in the whole country are available is really benefitting anyone (except for the purposes of bragging or RFD'er in-store arguments over stock  )

There is stock scattered all over the country and compiling a list of all available clearance items will help people find them. This worked very well with clearance laptops a couple of years ago. And these aren't the type of items that send RFDers out to hoard, people continue to find hidden stock over time and find new skus that are on clearance.

That may not be the most nonsensical comment I have ever heard on RFD but it sure is up there. Maybe the admins would be willing to make an area that is online only, for the RFD shut ins . You are complaining about having to drive to a store in your area that may, or may not have a fantastic deal, when there are threads on here all the time about US deals that dont deliver to Canada, or deals for TD customers only, or deals for Swiss Chalet or deals for Grand Openings.

The purpose of RFD is to share an individuals idea of where to find an economically priced product. Period.

i think this is a very helpful thread. ive been lookoinng for a computer deal for a month now but everything i look for is out of stock, then by the time i find the next computer deal thread its out of stock or that it was also a staples deal and now i have to make a second trip to look for another computer. plus i can easily compare the deal they have on different systems and laptops. i think it couold be a helpful thread. thanks op.

Hopefully people don't complain about Stables Being out of stock in this thread as well. The computers are on clearance, so they're trying to sell out of them.

Kind of off topic, but why does everyone here call Staples StOOples?Lots of RFDers think "Clearance" is a name for "Sale" and not "PRICES SLASHED SINCE THESE NEED TO GO", so they get very mad and start calling Staples "StOOpleS" for "OOS" or "out of stock".

StOOpleS ...

Out Of Stock

But not on these computers ... in stock in Edmonton.

Call ahead as YMMV... and don't call the stores near you. Call a far-away store and ask them to check stock in your municipal area. That way, they can't hide the stock and won't be motivated to lie about inventory.

OMG, I just came back from local stoople (Winston Churchil & Dundas) and they had the last 1000HE in stock so I grab it and paid $338 tax-in.

In addition to that, they have a promotion so they gave me D-Link WBR-2310 Wireless G Router for free.

Was the 1000he NIB? Some of their "clearance" models are exactly brand new....either demos/displays/returns...

....I am a newb as far as posts go but I've been on this site for years. I just don't see how any senior member or deal addict can question a stOOpleS end of year clearance thread. Great idea as long as the master list on the first page is updates with dates, geographic regoins, etc. Good on ya OP.

To me, these "deals" (so far) only serve to emphasise how great a deal the Acer Quad Q8300 system at BB was. It pretty much sold out (esp online) the first day, but it still shows on their website at $350!!! The price hasn't changed yet, so apparently it wasn't even a price error. Or if it was, they're taking an awfully long time getting around to correcting it. :)

My local stOOpleS is still selling the dual core equivalent Acer for around $500 when I was in the other day. Less memory and smaller HDD too, IIRC.

items not avail. online doesn't necessarily = not avail. instore

i'm sure many RFDers have taken advantage of clearance items in the past instore as opposed to online

if you search RFD, there have been many of these types of stooples clearance threads... i guess you didn't/couldn't take advantage of any of them ... =P

BTW, where's S.Chan... ? ;) he's usually the one to post this :D

For anyone in the Ottawa region, I picked up the e9120y at the Merivale location. They had 4 left.

Now comes the decision of whether to keep it or not. If any of you experts could give some thoughts on whether $550 is a good price for this computer, I would greatly appreciate help. Thanks!

Thanks for the heads-up, I got this from the Circle Dr location yesterday and they had 4 - shipped to my Calgary store for free. Seems like the only place in western Canada with any stock. They also threw in a free HP printer (after $50 MIR) and free D-Link router. In case someone is operating without a router at this point in time...

As for whether this is a good deal: aren't PCs with these spec's still going for $800-1000? Didn't do much comparison shopping, but I think I'm getting my money's worth with this one.

How did you get the free router? I thought it came only with the purchase of a netbook or a notebook. Regardless, that's a great deal!
