I have not received their holiday booklet yet announcing all their new products - thought it didn't come out until the end of the month? Their products are usually delicious, and I try to try them all at least once when they come out :)

Not new from this pc book,
but the last one had some Italian pastas and the pumpkin ravioli is pretty good.
It is sold in the deli section and the annoying thing is you can not refreze it an would make more sense for the store to sell it still frozen and i have to cook the whole thing if I want to save any for later.
The package is pretty small though, maybe 2 small servings.
But for grocery store pasta is quite good!

Bought the crackers. Eating the Honey and Flax one now. So addictive.
I bought two for $3. Good price for these. I got the Roasted Pepper one too, for hummus.

I haven't seen the booklet yet, But I found a great new PC product in housewares: PC Ceramic Knives.
There are three, All Purpose, Chef's, and Santoku, from 5" to 6.5", each with a protective sheaf, priced from $15 to $20 each. Something of a price breakthrough, compared to Kyocera.
They are very sharp, and will hold the edge for a year or two with careful use.
I bought one of each, but I may get three more All Purpose 6.5" to have a set of 4 steak knives that will impress my guests.

One of the grocery books I got had these dessert mousse cups, they came ina package of 8...might have been Metro I really forget?
But PC had these creme caramel and mousse in actual reuseable glass cups for $4pk of 2.
Would be nice for guests, but kinda expensive for 1 person all the time.
I want to try them once because I just ruined 1 of my glass cups and had to throw it out so only have 3.
But for chocolate mousse you can make your own so easy with a 100 gram chocolate bar and 3 eggs and that's it and much cheaper too :)
(like under $2 for 4 servings if you use the $1 chocolate bars from metro or the swiss cheaper chocolate:)

I find the Classico is considerably better.
I had the PC pesto sauce last week. It was like no other jarred Pesto sauce i've ever had. So creamy and flavourful.
The Classico seems a bit bland and stale in comparison.
Maybe it's a matter of personal taste.
I'm having the PC Bolognese sauce now, and it's really good. Thick and chunky.
If PC opened a shop of just their own brands, i would be a regular.

bottled pesto makes me suspicious.. the stuff should turn brown technically unless theyre loading it with some kind of preservative (i would think?)

if it's exposed to oxygen
in a sealed container it won't go brown
same with guac

Tbh I didn't really care for the PC Pumpkin Ravioli, I found it to be far too sweet for my liking. I mean it was even sweeter than the filling they use in most pumpkin pies! Also the pasta tasted really synthetic/processed, it was almost reminiscent to eating wax.

Me too.
Classico is my fave pasta sauce and I know several who would agree.
Hmm I wonder if PC will have their in-store 'sample stands' for their new products?
I remember they did that when they were promoting their blue menu line... that was great, I ended up buying/trying a lot of prodcuts I wouldnt have normally.

I did find the filling a bit sweet and kind of wonder why the heck they put amaretti cookies in the filling (those are cookies made from egg white, almond and sugar), they are usually used in desserts.
If they wanted to keep the pc pasta cheap which is why I think they used those cookies they should have used seasoned breadcrumbs instead.
Also, it depends what kind of sauce/seasning you used on the pasta.
What did you use?
I boiled the pasta then added some roasted hazelnut oil, fresh grated parmesan and some fresh ground black pepper.
The parmesan and pepper took away from the sweetness, while the oil added a nutty flavor :)
My pasta was not waxy, but it was "dry" in the package quite a lot.
the pasta seems to be made from more eggs i recall....
Ok,
what else can you eat with this pasta?
I want to try something else as a sauce.

I didn't really use a "sauce" per say, what I did was I cooked a knob of butter on a hot pan with some finely chopped sage and parsley. Place some raviolis in the hot pan and basted it in the butter for a min, and than grated some Parmesan on top.
With raviolis, I dislike using tomato sauce since it really ruins the flavour for me as I find most tomato sauces too heavy. Pesto is ok, just not too much.
But yeah, I really didn't enjoy the PC raviolis that much. I think Ziggy's are a bit better though.

Mulled apple soda? Is there anyway to describe this product? Doesn't seem to appealing but I think I will try it out.
I don't think I have had any PC products that were awful. I love them. Although I hate Superstore lol , long lineups and understaffed all the time.

oh, so you didn't boil or rinse off the ravioli?
I always do that to make them less sticky feeling and usually cook in microwave or steam for a few minutes too.
makes the texture a bit softer.

Are any of the PC supermarkets 24/7? Just curious.
Because the supermarkets that close at crappy hours like 8PM are always the PC supermarkets around here, while the ones open 24/7 are Sobeys, Metro, A&P, and so on.. I like PC stuff but usually do my shopping late at night, so I miss out on trying most of this stuff

it tasted a lot like 'irish cream milk' which used to be sold around the holidays beside the eggnog years ago in grocery stores

Yep, I placed the raviolis in boiling salted water first and than finish them off in the herb butter.
I've had some really good fresh raviolis before at a restaurant and I guess they ruined it for me, it was a simple spinach and cheese ravioli and the pasta was soft and thin. I guess they set the bar up too high in terms of my expectations... :(

I tried the PC Bolognese Sauce last night. It was pretty good. Lots of beef and pork. Had lots of flavour. Didn't need to add anything to it.
I'll probably buy it again however, the bottle is quite small. They were on sale for $3, since I assume because it's new. Hopefully they don't increase the price too much.

Picked up the last box of Honey and Flax (I lol'd when I saw the section cleaned out, word must spread fast about how good they are ;)) and a box of that red pepper with garlic crackers.
Now I'm addicted. I wanted to try the mulled apple soda but didn't want to buy a big bottle and drag it home on the bus. Maybe next time.

Ok,
compared to real fresh local made pasta they are only ok.
Haven't seen pasta without cheese and just vegetable anywhere else though.
But for packaged pasta it is decent.
But you also have to remember that is is "freshly" made, frozen, shipped from italy, defrosted and stits in the store up to 2 weeks...so I don't have extremely high expectations of any store packaged items..most are decent and convenient though...

The new website (pc.ca) has been working for me since Nov 6th or 7th or something.
I hate the new site compared to the new one though. Everything takes forever to load and I dont think everythings there either. Now that's pathetic.

Whatever happened to the PC Timid Jerk Chicken Wings? I haven't seen them lately in the frozen food section of No frills or Loblaws.
Haven't seen them for awhile, come to think of it. Also, not able to find the small refrigerated plastic tubs of concentrate to make beef or chicken stock. They had a good flavour and weren't too salty.
The chocolate gingerbread bites are ok, a little too crunchy. The creme brulee is also ok, a touch too eggy, but the topping crisps up nicely. And the ramekins are cute and reusable.
The apple upside-down cake is good, but I prefer the taste and texture of their pineapple upside-down cake. That one is so good I haven't made my own for awhile.
The Genoa salami is really good, great texture and just the right funky salami taste.
