Do you think it'll get cheaper in a couple of weeks? Thanks.

Its hard to say. FS is offering price protection until January 3rd on all purchases, with some restrictions, so itès a fairly safe buy either way.

Sounds about right, I bought it from Sears yesterday for $1099. Grr.

Looks like Sears offer price match. Is this in a catalog anywhere?

Bought the tv. Thanks OP. I've been in the market for quite a while but that thing never drops below a thousand.

There is a sheet of TV offers that is posted at my local FS. It has these current Samsung and Sony instore offers listed. I'll try and get one and scan it. If not you could ask at your FS, if you need documentation. Or you could take a phone pic of the tag.

I think you mean with lots of restrictions.

Most of those are the usual ones that are part of their 30 day PP policy.
I think it's OK though. I'm interpreting this to mean ANY purchase for a gift, not just those on a gift receipt. Which to me means you can return any purchase made now up until January 3rd. Do you agree?
If so, no price protection refund, then I'm bringing the item back for a refund at FS and buying it from these nice people over here with the cheap price.

What is Future Shop Extended Return Policy?
We’ll gladly give you a refund or exchange on your Gift purchases until January 3rd, 2010 or for 30 days from the date of purchase - whichever is longer. A store credit will be issued for all Gift Receipt returns. To ensure quality service, returns and exchanges will not be processed on December 26-27.

I'm not an expert with LCD's, but my feeling is that the Samsung looks better to me. At least in a store setting. I'd look at AVS for comments from actual owners, before purchasing either, though. Maybe some reviews Cnet, Consumer Reports etc.

v5100 is last years w4100 rebadged if im not mistaken. The a650, last years model was better than the w and this years v, so its a no brainer that the a650s replacement the b610/640/650 is better. Cnet and avsforum will tell you this as well like the other poster mentioned

I was debating between KDL40V5100 and LN40B610 but I went with B610. IMHO, Samsung's 6 series are slightly better than Sony's V series. I'm not an expert either so you guys be the judge.

Just a tip for those that choose any type of financing deal and look for "price protection" due to a price drop: It can be a battle with retailers as unless the financing terms are identical , they will find ways to reduce how much you get back. Also something else to watch out for ( that I got burnt with by Leon's ) is if they give you any discount coupon ( like $200 off a furniture purchase ), they will also factor that into your price protection.

I think my TV is dying. Thanks for the post as I now have to look into new TVs ( just need bigger as I can't go smaller than 57" ) :)

Copies of these deals were handed out to people at the Broadway location in Vancouver as well.

It's funny, I was at three other Future Shops yesterday, none of them had this sheet displayed. The last one had it posted up at the door. They're erratic. Like above, where one store wasn't even pricing the 610 the same as the others.

A case for better consumer protection laws in Ontario, if I ever heard one.

I don't know if this is worth the trouble to you guys, but if you aren't really needing the Jan 3rd return/exchange date from Future Shop, you could try to get a PM at BB for $989 and then try for their FPISG (Flat Panel In Stock Guarantee) at Best Buy, if you can find a local store without a 40B610 in stock. That's another $50 off and free delivery. You might have to really argue and scream for it, though.
Just in case. You get the PM, telling them you want to take it with you, when they tell you that they don't have one in stock, you agree to pick it up when it arrives. You get an invoice number from them, and go to the cash to pay cash and "find" the sign, on the way, that has the FPISG policy. You go back to the rep and ask him/her WTF this is about, and why he/she didn't mention this policy before. Then you just insist that they give you the advertised offer. Which is that if they do not have any flat panel, in stock, for pick up, in store, you are entitled to -$50 and FD. They say 40" and over, but that is not on the signs. The only printed restrictions are "not valid for clearance, demos and Sony XBR's"? I believe. Nothing about not valid with other offers, either.

I haven't, but I doubt that there would be a problem, even without documentation. They could simply call the nearest FS to confirm the in store price. With the printout should be no probs, unless FS is out of stock all over.

The 610's are on sale at 2001 Audio/Video ..eg. 46" is $1388, $10 cheaper than FS sale price. So even if the offer ends today, you can still get the PM next week if you want to buy from FS.
