Mec just launched their own line of bikes.
Some here i know are serious about bikes and serious about MEC.
While the bikes are made in China i assume they will have the same great warranty on these if something goes wrong.
The prices don't seem bad but good bikes do cost $$$
This is just a heads up for those looking.

I'll stick to my Italian and French made wheels.

haha time will tell how well MEC fares in accessing the cycling market downtown...

mind you people who ride urban commuters most probably won't be buying a MEC bike given that they know the given price range can land them a significantly better bike at a LBS.

The MEC bikes will most probably appeal to those who are entering the market and don't know better.. UNLESS MEC drops their prices on these bikes

For those prices I'll stick with my Rocky Mountain Elevation.

They're apparently made in Taiwan.

I wonder which manufacturer actually made them? Giant maybe?
The folding bike is a Dahon... It's not going to arrive at stores until December though.

Bike is made in Taiwan. Don't confuse the two please. I'd guess they got these bikes from Giant (also from Taiwan).

Any verdict on these bikes yet? Anybody with first hand experience or read some reviews? Highly considering buying from MEC cause of the company but I'm scared it may be of Walmart or CT quality.

I havn't seen the MEC bikes yet, but I'd bet the quality and price point will be competative.

That being said, the price of bikes at a LBS is actually not bad. Its the parts and accessorys that the LBS make all their margin on. I'd like to support my LBS more, but most items are priced 50-100% more than similiar items at MEC.

I have no hate for MEC. Usually have very knowledgable staff in the cycling dept. MEC stores are also less intimitating for first time/ casual cyclists.
