Wow, I never knew how excellent the images came out from the 200L F/2...

Must get myself one... and a couple of umbrella's and light stands, and pocket wizards, and extra flashes... then i'll be a certified strobist!

I guess everyone else posts what they have in this thread?
Keeps things nice and tidy in a dedicated thread? :D

Nikko: Thx for organizing this awesome outing bud! That 200L/2.0 of yours if just ridiculous. I want one! This was a good learning experience for me (street strobing setup).

Kaitlyn: It's always great to have a member of the staff attend. Was good to have aboard and thx very much for the free swag! I'm gonna use the pins in future meets.

Everyone: Nice pics all! I'll try and post some later this evening when I get back home from work.

Chris: Nice street pics bud! Would love to see everyone else's street pics too. I kept forgetting to take more street pics :(

Just wondering, what do you guys think about posting our RAWs up privately for us to take a look at each other's shots? For me, especially with the Canon's I can take a look at all those extra bits of photo setup goodness! hehe

If people are willing to share their RAWs I can set up a private FTP for us to upload to...

Let me know!

I shot 2 vids from the night. First one is from Yonge-Dundas Square when we were still setting up. 136MB.

2nd video is from KBBQ. 200MB. Enjoy!

WARNING: They are 1920x1080 in resolution in Quicktime format. Gives you an idea of those who are wondering about the 5D Mark 2's High-Def 1080p movie capability and sound. They are safe for work.

I hope you threw some cash to the cowboy after taking his picture.

Also, I wonder about the term "candid" in the shoot. When you're traveling in groups of people with various camera equipment, including flash umbrellas, tripods, and fong dongs all over the place, you aren't exactly inconspicuous, making a truly candid shot pretty difficult.

The fact that we were asking people if they want their picture taken would also make me wonder about the term "candid".

Actually, he didn't have a place to put money.
He always stands in front of H&M when he is doing his "Copper Cowboy" gig, but yesterday he was painted gold and was doing a promotion for Money Mart's Cash for Gold program...so he was there just to attract people to nearby Cash for Gold mini-booth

Why does the second picture have so much noise compared to the third picture when the ISO is fairly similar, 2000, and 2500 respectively?

The exposure bias is -0.5 on the third photo, but is that the only reason? If so, could someone explain why? Could it be the ambient light that is affecting it?

Also, for the first photo, the ISO is 5000 and yet, there is very little noise compared to the one after.

legendofxix
Nov 6th, 2009, 05:26 PM
I think all that noise is from Photoshop doing the selective color.

Also, for the first photo, the ISO is 5000 and yet, there is very little noise compared to the one after.

There's 2 main reason for it:
1) This picture is a crop of a bigger picture. It's approximately 1/4 of the total area. At this ratio, the noise will be very apparent even at lower ISO and 21MP.
2) Post processing contributed to it (Lightroom)

His was f/2.8 IS, the heaviest of all 4.

I really like that Canon offers 4 versions of it, unlike Nikon. They do know how popular 70-200 range is. With Nikon it's either 70-200 f/2.8 VR or nothing. Well, you could say 80-200 f/2.8...but it's really not in the same league.

Many reviews say f/4 IS is one of the sharpest zooms ever, and it only costed $1000 at Blacks. I think the rebate still goes.

I originally had the 2.8IS. Great lens for almost any job. I found myself leaving it at home due to it's weight and size. Then I sold it and got the 4.0IS. While it's sharper and much lighter, I missed not having the f2.8 as I've gotten to shooting paid Gigs. In some instances, I need to keep the ISO low as possible and get good shutter speeds. F2.8 comes in handy for that. I then sold my f4IS and have gone back to the f2.8IS version.

Yes, it's a beast, but it's a flexible beast if you shoot some church weddings, and some other Gigs where flash ain't allowed and if you need that extra subject isolation.

If not shooting paid gigs, the f4IS is a perfect choice: It's simply a great bang for the buck.

The only reason to get an F4/IS is for portability. If you stop down a 2.8IS to 3.5-4.0, it will match the F/4IS in sharpness.

I wish I had my 70-200 F4/IS at today's outing at the zoo. Instead, I tortured myself lugging the 200IS.

Yep, went to the zoo today. Awesome weather.
Though, I don't recommend going this time of year. Most of the animals weren't available for viewing (the gorillas stayed indoors and if you wanted pics of them, you'd have to shoot through a thick dirty glass). Lots of construction going on there as well.

Some are already posted here but have been updated slightly.

Dude, that shot of Chris with the big Bazooka is just hilarious (his smile makes the shot, lol). :D

BTW, I think Chris would be offended if we chose the chick over him for modeling. I hear that these super models have big egos ;)

Yeah Sammy I wonder what you were saying behind the scene? ;)

I would be REALLY glad if you can find a cute chick in replacement of me, at least I can be behind the camera instead of in front of the lens.
