Will the new HST soon to be implemented in Ontario ( July 1 ,2010 ) increase your residential ( House ) water bill as well ?

I know your Hydro ( electricity ) and Heating ( Gas ) bill will go up by 8 % when the HST kicks in , since right now only GST ( 5 % ) is charged on it but no PST ( 8 % ) is charged on these 2 bills .

I don't see any GST mentioned on my water bill , but I clearly see a GST on both my Hydro & Heating ( Gas ) bills .

Is the water bill exempt from the GST ( or the new HST ) or does the water bill you get right now in Toronto ( or GTA ) already has the GST included in it in a hidden way so that even though you don't see a separate line on the water utility bill for the GST its still there ...if that's the case I guess the HST will increase your water bill as well just like your Hydro & Heating bill.

Have you tried contacting your utility to get the official answer?

if it's subject to GST now, HST will apply.

If you are currently paying GST only, you'll be paying GST+PST (HST).

Seriously guys, 40 seconds on the CRA website:

Supplies of unbottled water are considered to be standard
municipal services.

A supply of a service of installing, repairing, maintaining or
interrupting the operation of a water distribution, sewerage,
or drainage system, is not subject to GST/HST if the supply
is made by a municipality or by an organization designated
as a municipality for this purpose.

GST/HST does not apply to municipal services, such as
sewerage services, that a municipality provides on a
non-optional basis to owners or occupants of real property
in the municipality.
