ok so my logitech lx3 just gave out and now clicks 3 times per click and some other random weird crap...

i wanted everyone's opinions on possible mice candidate replacements before i make my purchase based on users who have actually tried gaming mice.

i was looking at the razor lachesis because it was a similar shape and not too extra with all kinds of crazy button everywhere.

so yeah gamers lets hear it. what do you guys use? what is your verdict?

I recommend the Logitech G5. I've got a few in "stock" at home from back when they were $35 a piece on sale. :D I think it's the greatest gaming mouse ever made (it was based on the MX-510 and 518) and nowadays, Logitech made the G500 which is based on the G5.

I personally really dislike Razer mice because I find they're not comfortable. It seems that company assumes that you must have tiny hands to be comfortable with their rodents.

Not all Razer mice are tiny. I've used a Razer Diamondback and that was about the size of those classic Logitech optical mice, but the DeathAdder I have is definitely far from small. It doesn't have the round feeling of these Logitech mice, but it still fits your hand quite well.

I used a MX518 for over two years before changing to the DeathAdder, so I'm pretty used to the ergonomics of both designs.

My vote is for MX 518. I have 2 MX 518's and one G5 (using the G5 right now on this computer :)). Both are great mice, BUT I have to give the edge to MX 518. Keep in mind that I am a very heavy FPS gamer (fast FPS - quake, UT, etc.).

The tracking on both is excellent. My sensitivity is set to uber high, so obviously I would know otherwise. That being said, the great thing about the 518 is that it feels lighter on the hand and easier to zing back and forth than the G5.

Also, there are reviews about how the MX518 is better than the G5 due to the infrared vs laser difference as well. Read up on that.

My vote is for the mx518. I'm still using my mx510 since wayyy back then. If you want an extra edge, add on some teflon feet and a nice pad (I use a func mousepad). Its def a matter of preference, but I always tell people, if you beat me in quake using a razor mouse, then I'll go out and buy one. :D

It's not infrared, it's just a regular LED. You can open it up and swap the LED to a different color if you want. I've modded a MX500 with a white LED and it looks pretty kickass. You can't mod the laser mice.

Infrared is near-invisible, like most Razer mice.

G500 is on sale at NCIX for 64 bucks plus free shipping, which is not bad. I'm not too sure about the performance of the mouse but it is the successor of the G5. Here's the link, there's only a couple left

I have used the logitech 518, G5 and G9
The G5 was the most comfortable and is a great gaming mouse..

I'm using the G9 now , I like the prophiles that you can use with it , But it's not as comfortable as the G5 in my opinion .. Both are great for gaming..

I had the G5 before my lachasis. I kinda liked it but to me I find once I ajusted my hand to it the lachasis fits my hand better as I am a " finger tipper " as there thing sugested I am for my mousing style & the lachasis is perfect for it & for having a fairly large hand.

Go to razors site & do there test thing & see what is best for you. Then if you can afford it get that 1 & if not then the G5 or newer version of it.

Again all depends on your hand size & your "clicking" style. :D

My G500 just came in today I purchased it from the NCIX sale, so far I'm pretty happy with it. It feels great in my hand (I have pretty small hands) This is my first 'gaming' mouse and I'm upgrading from a VX Revolution, so it's quite a bit of a difference. There are many options available for this mouse I particularly like all the profiles and onboard memory. Since this is my first gaming mouse I don't really have anything to compare it to but I've managed to try out the Razer Deathadder and for some reason I couldn't get used to it, didn't feel natural for me. I guess I do have a bit of a biased because I've been using the VX Revolution and from what I can tell the 'grooves' are really similar.

I like massive/heavy mice, therefore, G5.
edit: Just read some stuff about the G500, seems nice.

ok well thanks everyone for their input. i looked at the g5 and it was too heavy for my liking and the feel was ok.. im not a fan of oval mice.

i was trying the g9 they had on sale at cc this weekend for 39.99. i did not go with that since it had a weird square shape and was really small. it was not long enuff.

i decided to go with the razor death adder over the lachesis. the feel was great. liked the soft rubber. the shape was what i was looking for. the indented contour buttons and side shaping to the thumb and hand. and it was not heavy ot too light. on top of that the size was what a gaming mice should be. bigger then the average mouse but not too big. also the big winner for this for me was that there was not a massive amount of buttons on it. i liked the 2 thumb buttons but i wasnt a fan of the e56 and 9 button mice at all. the mouse scroll wheel is a nice big strong wheel that doesn't feel cheap like the Microsoft ones. i said hell no to the mamba once i saw the price tag.

last was the sidewinder x9. very responsive mouse.
but a very odd shape and too many buttons. i did not like how the side buttons were situated and i did not like sharp hump you had to get around with your thumb. and last it felt like a toy. felt cheap plasticky feeling.

so after ruling out the g9 and lachesis and x9. @ 49.99 the razor deathadder won my approval.

oh dont get me wrong the lachesis was great when i was testing the display on cod 4. i just didnt like the extra buttons. and like you said i never used them since they were in an awkward spot. but i must say razor makes a great mouse for the price i paid.

yeah if they could move the ones on the right up to the front more the ring finger could hit buttons.

I went from the MX518 to the G5; and I wish I had my 518 back.

They are essentially the same; G5 has weights, rough surface, and side scroll on the wheel.

G5 seems to always loose its settings and the DPI switch seems goofy because of that. Example: Set the key binding for side scroll and in midgame it simply stops working and the mouse just slows down (I assume logiteck software just craps out and you revert to windows basic mouse settings). I have to unplug/replug to get everything back.

MX518 was simply perfect; just wish it had sidescroll to allow some added keybinds.

Anyone with the new logitech 500 let me know if you have any similar issues or if it is possible to map other keys to the DPI buttons.

for a really good and relatively inexpensive mouse, check out Microsoft intelli explorer 3.0

I have tried many mice and i found out that the shape doesn't matter in the long run because the way i hold the mouse evolves over time to make using the mouse more comfortable. (i have switched mice sooo many times so it comes from experience)

MX518/G9/G5/DA are all great mice as well

i was looking at this mouse. but the sidewinder x3 was better imho. same features as the deathadder but when it came down to feel and shape the DA won me over.

from my years of experience (used at least 10 different gaming mouse, started from first optical mouse microsoft intellieye 1.0 in 2000) they are all techically great mouses.

it is the geometry makes the difference

generally speakering
logitech mx 5xx has better stability and precision
razor has better flexbility to make fast moves

buy the ones u feel more confortable with ur hand. im sticking with razor diamondback now (used 2 already), the new ones are not as comfortable as diamondback for me (longer click distance).
